this is awesome-I like this a lot-you are ispired by Dali? Great artist.

Anyway-whenever you do-read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. You'll understand why you should read it when you read it. You can find this book...You will not regret reading it.

I like it, even though there are some things that immediatly attract my attention. The hooks don't seem to be 'holding' the object. They seem to photoshopped because there seems to be no strain between the hooks and the feet.

Other then that it's a really nice surrealistic piece of a smart girl

Thanks for the comment and the careful look!
I have an explanation for why the hooks do not 'strain' the object, it was done intentionally - imagine something hung on rubber strings bouncing up and down because pulled
And yes, I know metal strings don't bounce like that! So this might be a bit more smarter than you thought...
Take care!

*smile* Well you know me, I always look at your work with care because you often put a lot of effort into it. The least I could do is actually look *grin*.

Anyway, the hooks also seemed a bit misaligned. I still like the picture very much though

to tell you the truth, i was rather surprised by it myself when it was finished, though concepts changed very, very little during the making. not my usual take-this-piece-no-maybe-better-that-blah-i-messed-it-shucks working style ^_^
thanks a lot for your nice comment!

i love the surrealistic stuff you make and you're so good at making seemless photomanips, amazing!

I'ts beautiful as a whole, but the details are what make it feel special... the mirrored clockface, the fishing hooks from which he falls/dangles, and correct me if i'm wrong but it seems you've flipped the sky upside-down too ^__^ all touches of finesse, and it shows deep thought and symbolism. i'd ask what it all means, but it seems like something which the artist would rather keep secret to herself.

Take care, Simbel.

Simbelmine In reply to airetosE [2006-02-23 15:26:28 +0000 UTC]

ahh! you always manage to look into the details, into what makes the effort, into what makes the meaning ^_^

speaking of 'what it means' i don't think it's a secret, you just know how i tend not-to-explain what i make, but ask for insights. let's do it like this - you write down your interpretation of the image and then i tell you my original idea! [;

pssst, i did turn the sky upside down! you've been a careful looker! though it was not done because of concept, simply it looked better that way!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

airetosE In reply to Simbelmine [2006-02-25 05:02:49 +0000 UTC]

lol!

Well my interpretation is that it's a somewhat metaphorical portrait of a person who's currently being used or played for a fool by people/situations around him, which are those hooks which impale him and cause him pain, while hindering his movement.

But it's these hooks which hold him high, for all to see. A sort of tortured look at "fame", i thought.

And yet, though he wants to free himself of this control and pain, he knows that he would inevitably fall from the sky to his death if he were to be suddenly free from these hooks.

So it's a "catch twenty-two"; he has recognition where he is now, but it's restricting. Were he to be freed, he'd fall to his death. The plight of unwilling celebrities, perhaps?

As for the mirrored clock face, i wasn't sure but i figured that he wishes he could turn back time . . . perhaps the face is mirrored because he himself is looking at himself through a mirror, and this picture is what he sees. Perhaps the absence on hands on the face of time symbolizes the lack of control he has on time? Or perhaps the fact that he's lost track of time? i'm not sure.

Anyway that's my lame interpretation of the piece, now, you tell me what it's really about

i'm excited to hear it!

worthless-liar In reply to airetosE [2006-08-23 18:09:17 +0000 UTC]

that is a great interpretation-worded beautiful-read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn if you haven't already-you'll understand why you should read it when you do

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Simbelmine In reply to airetosE [2006-02-25 18:45:26 +0000 UTC]

i love your interpretation! mostly because it makes me realize i can make something that can actually make someone think!

let's see on my own idea - the whole image is based upon symbols, and combinations of these symbols lead unto one or another 'plotline' - emotion.
although after reading your interpretation i see how differently things can be perceived.

anyways, my idea:
the person is an X - symbolises the unknown, in this case it is the unknown state of a person who loses time. this leads us to the clock (a general symbol of time), which is the central part of the image - a clock without arms, to show that time is unreachable or lost, and mirrored/reversed, to show the relativity of time in general.
the hooks are essential to show that time is not the only thing that can tie down. they can symbolize many things, starting with gravity and ending with commitment. painful, because losing time sense gives you a semblance of being free, yet the 'hooks' hold you back. the person is upside down - losing sense of time can also lead to a feeling of free fall.
finally, the background. as a component of an artwork image it has great meaning - to give depth, environment and mood to the piece. i chose clouds, for they fit the idea of 'fall' and the sky can also be translated as a symbol of eternity.

hopefully that didn't sound very dry
any other effects you might have noticed, such as darkening, lightening, burn and flipping, as i already said, are only for the purposes of better looks.

maybe the whole image as made for the sole purpose of 'getting nice looks'.

do i sound mad?

In the end, much of art is all about getting nice looks ;D sometimes i doodle random objects which don't fit together logically, but they just look nice next to each other. Whatever works XD

And i LOVE your interpretation ^^ it's awesomee
