Description
Oh my gosh, this scene...Wise words and kindness from the Princess of the Night. I love her portrayal in this episode
Took me about 5 hours in Gimp.
If you've never heard the song Lullaby for a Princess, man...one of the best fan-made songs out there, imo. [link]

Probably the cutest moment in an episode filled with cute.
Forget the unicorn candidates.
Scootaloo is Luna's student.

Aw, I love this! It's a sweet scene, and I love how you did the sparkly details in Luna's mane and the characters' expressions. Overall an excellent piece!

Whoa, sweet! When you said you were working on a Luna pic, I didn't think you meant one from the new episode. It looks excellent for a quickie (I say that only because of how new the episode is), and I think you caught the ambiance of the scene really well. Luna's eye looks a bit too far back on her head, though, and her legs look a tad too spindly for her body. Her wing looks possibly too big for her body, but if the legs were beefed up more, it might look more proportionally correct. Her hair, on the other hand, looks brilliant, as does little Scootaloo (such a cutie in this episode!). I think if you worked on bringing the shadows in your bodies further around, instead of sticking so close to the linework with it, you might be able to get your bodies to look as pleasingly realistic as your hair. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but it's something to experiment with, at least. Because if I'm being honest, I've always thought that your hair and eyes are beautiful, but the bodies are perpetually lacking something, probably because (like me) you're not entirely sure what to do with it. You might try showing little 'tufts' of fur, maybe see what that looks like, but beyond that I'm afraid I'm not much help.
So...maybe not the most constructive criticism in the world, but three cheers to you for getting something that looks this good out this fast!

Ok, fattened her forelegs a little (now her hind legs look too small), redid the star field, made her mane more sparkly, added some definition by using the line technique you showed me, and did a teeny bit more shadowing. Minor tweaks, but I hope they help trick the eye into ignoring the flaws. I'm actually rather proud of how this turned out.
Now that I've edited it a dozen times

Agreed about the hind legs, but everything else does look better now, her front legs especially. You should absolutely be proud of this!

Oh no, it's quite constructive. Luna's eye is definitely misplaced. It was WAY back when I first uploaded. I went back and fixed it as best I could but it's gonna have to do.
I like the shaggy look on ponies, maybe I should try going that route. Or just add more shading like you said.
One self-criticism too: The star field in the background kinda came out looking like snow
Thanks much, good pointers as always

I know! Love the idea of her entering ponies' dreams, especially as a guide of sorts.
Thanks! I just realized I have to fix a couple things tho...

I moved her eye a little. It's still not exactly right, but it's better than it was. That and a place where another layer was showing though. It's all fixed now, good enough.
