Description Request for , her OC Static. I hope it looks ok. Not sure what the pose is supposed to be. Dancing? Soliciting a hug? Hope you like it. He's a cool character, I had fun drawing him! Thanks for the request!

Also, first pic drawn with my new Wacom tablet Picked it up yesterday and I'm pleased that it hasn't been as hard to get used to drawing with as I had expected

EDIT: I redid his tail, I like it a lot better now.

So if I give him a hug, will I get shocked? Is his favorite dance the electric slide? Har har har...har. Okay, I'm done...

Another well-done piece from you! My personal favorite part is your highlighting on the hair. Hair is such a pain to do, but yours came out looking nice, so well done!

But more than anything, congrats on your new tablet! Good to hear you've taken to it so easily, as well! I hope it proves to be useful for you, and I'm sure it will help to take your art to the next level. And unlike myself, you've already got loads of practice using digital software, so that's definitely a plus.

I don't know the origins of his perchance for all things electrical, but it does seem to be his defining trait.

Thank you! The hair wasn't too hard. Dodge one side of each strand, burn the other, then smuuuuuudge. My fav part

Thank you! My appointment to have my wisdom teeth go rescheduled so I decided to blow some of the money I had saved for it. I got a Bamboo Connect, I'm sure it's similar to yours. Yea, I thought it would be a real adjustment but it hasn't been so bad. It definitely makes some things easier. Best thing so far? Not having to worry about going off the edges of a sketchpad. And yes, for now I'm sticking with GIMP. I have't even installed the software that came with the tablet - Photoshop Elements, Corel Painter 4?? Figured I'd get used to using it before I experiment with new programs. Yay, new shiny thing!

Dodge, burn, smudge...I need to try these tools out sometime, especially now that I sorta halfway know my way around the software. Kind of ashamed to say I haven't tried them out already.

I think yours is the newer model of mine, the Bamboo Pen. It took some getting used to, on my part, but I'm pretty comfortable working with it now. Yeah, Painter 4 came with my tablet, too. It's pretty basic, and it's missing a lot of the brushes found in 11 (naturally), but even so, I would think it would at least be a step up from GIMP. Hopefully you'll get to try it out soon! And once again, congrats!

I didn't know you were scheduled to have your wisdom teeth removed. I know you mentioned it to me back when mine were pulled, but I didn't know you had an appointment. When's the big day supposed to be now?

Oh, and just out of curiosity, did you buy it online or in a store? If it was a store, what store was it? When I was telling people I wanted one for Christmas, the number-one question I kept getting was "Where do they sell them?" to which I found myself surprisingly at a loss for an answer. I was just curious to know what store actually physically sells them!

My appointment got pushed from March 2nd to April 10th. I might take a day or two off from work regardless of if I need it - it's a valid enough excuse - and I wanted the tablet anyway so I'd have something to do.

I got it at a Staples store but Best Buy carries them too. They do seem to be kind of a specialty item, I've never seen them at a department store like Walmart or Target.

I really thought I wanted the Intuos ($199 for the smallest one) but now that I've used the Connect it seems perfectly sufficient. Glad I didn't spend more. Is yours pressure sensitive? I've been using mine with the pressure sensitivity turned off for the most part. I can see where it would be useful for more advanced techniques tho.

I think you'd be wise to take those couple days off, like you said. If nothing else, the medicine will knock you for a loop, and you'll sleep A LOT. And boy, when you first wake up, you'll feel GOOOOOD! Cuz DRUGS ROCK, DUUUUDE!!!

Staples, huh? That makes sense then, because there are no Staples stores around here, and I always try to avoid Best Buy (their prices are ridiculous, in my opinion), so it's no wonder why I've never seen them for sale anywhere. Oh yes, mine's pressure-sensitive, and I love it! It's actually one of the features I looked for when choosing a model. In my mind, I was wanting whatever could most closely replicate the ability of pencil-and-paper shading. Now that I have it, though, I find it's most useful for tapering-off my brush strokes, going from thick to thin. I don't actually specifically use it that often, but it's always on, and I enjoy having it when I need it. Like you said, if I was more proficient with the software, I could probably find a thousand other uses for it though.

Oh, duh, I didn't even think about the medication...yea, I better put in for those days off. Good advice, thanks man!

It seems like Wacom fixes their prices, all the tablets at Best Buy and Staples had the exact same prices. But yea, generally Best Buy seems like a rip-off. I could have used my 10% discount on Walmart.com but:

"I WANT[ed] IT NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!"

The pressure sensitivity drove me crazy at first, but for things like fur, hair, tree bark, grass blades, clouds, anything involving textures or lots and lots of brush strokes when you want some variance in colors and shades...I think it'll be invaluable

Can't wait to see a pic from you like that. Sometime I wanna do a fur tutorial (I kinda promised it), but dunno when. I can see the potential in your pics, all you need is to search for tutorials and practice as much as you can. Btw what is the hardware you use for drawing?

Neko-me In reply to SimeonLeonard [2012-02-27 21:40:50 +0000 UTC]

That's cool! Correct my if I mistaken but it is much easier to draw with a tablet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SimeonLeonard In reply to Neko-me [2012-02-27 21:51:33 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I have to admit that it seems a lot easier. It's definitely more natural, although some people are really good with a mouse! I never really bought into the notion that some people only draw well because they have a tablet, or that other people can't draw well because they don't.
