Description I love Google, and I love the Google website, but of course things I'd do differently if I was the designer. For starters I think the Google brand should be all vector, so I changed the logo to be just flat. Secondly the the top ribbon should have the same colors as the logo and NOT the browser standard blue. I also added a nicer looking yet still minimal search field. The links were also arranged in a much more cleaner way, such as adding the preferences etc under the search bar rather than offset to the right, and adding the iGoogle, Gmail, and login links within the ribbon. Finally it's all XHTML/CSS, and table free, something Google should of done years ago.

Anyways I'd love to hear your feedback. x

I like this google homepage better, its neater and more simplistic.

*I agree with everyone else as to say that google shouldn't be changed, but you haven't actually really changed anything, just improved it. Everyone can still plainly see that this is in fact Google as it holds all of its original characteristics.

1. Large white background
2. Multi-colored 'Google' header
3. Search bar in center

google counts the words on its page, more words is more complexity to the site, less words is more simple! And simple is what google is looking for!

I think this is okay, but I agree with =miksago , Google's current pay is one of the most recognizable webpages on the internet. Everyone knows how to use the page, so there really is no need to change it. ("Don't fix it if it's not broken")

But just for a play around, this is a cool design but I wouldn't like to see it go into use

True, but little subtle things like updated colors, standards based xhtml, and more whitespace just take a perfect website to even perfecter. x

But again, no reason to fix something that isn't broken. Google's page has been the same for so many years that any change will throw people off. To people like you and I, it would be pretty cool as we're technically savvy and would adjust to the change rather quickly. But our "group" of tech. savvy people are not as many as those who would have a difficult time adjusting.

But still, this is a nifty design change you made, so don't take this as me hating on your work

I think google is one design place that noone should mess with. It might not be the newest and coolest design on the web, but it's the most recognizable. If google suddenly did redesign, they may actually loose market share, while people work out whether they're on the right website or not. Also, the google logo currently is timeless, vector is timed.

That's my opinion, although, I agree with you on the blue bar at the top of pages.

Well the design hasn't changed much, it's just subtle improvements to make it more minimal and easier to use. At the moment the Google home page feels kind of messy. Also I find the logo kind of tacky, gradients, embossing, and drop shadows. Just feels a little too much styling for such a minimal page. I love it vectorized. x

hmm.. I guess it's a matter of tradition. Would it look good contemporary?
