Yes I would normally do that, as you will see all other elements are done that way. But the footer is brand new and experimental and it's easier to design using inline styling and then move across into proper classes and stylesheets. x

but why edit the html? when you could leave the classes in and just import an experimental CSS and just edit the CSS file.... honestly Html markup is for content and defining classes and id's etc. the rest should all be handled in CSS even if it is brand new.

i could do, but currently the css for simplecandy is huge so trying to find the right selector would be annoying for development, so I like to do things inline, and then move to the stylesheet when I'm happy with the result. x
