And where in my response did I say that I did not support animal rights? No, I've never been in a slaughterhouse, and yes, the animals are treated like crap since the day they were born right up to their death by human hands. Once again, I support the decisions of most vegetarians that stop eating meat because of animal abuse and the ecological problems concerned with over-grazing, etc. That's understandable. My only problem here is with the extremists that say meat eaters are sinners because while most of our meat comes from factories where the poor animals are tortured and mistreated, there are some places that do actually pamper their animals. And quite frankly, why should I take responsibility for the torture they go through when I'm not the one working on the factory? If I was, I would shoulder the blame and take on the responsibility of making sure these animals are treated correctly before they are slaughtered and processed, and become the next steak on someone's plate.

Yes, you have a lot of good points. The problem is the animals are stuck where they are to supply the demand for meat. The only way the abuse will really stop is for meat eaters to demand it, or to just stop eating animals.

Which will be a difficult thing to stop, considering how most of the human population was raised to eat meat and vegetables, so it'll be hard for them to adapt to a lifestyle of eating just vegetarian food items. I just don't see the point of mistreating animals though--- especially in a factory. If they're going to die in the future, why not just let them roam about instead of keeping them cooped up, beat them, tase them, or neuter them without morphine? That's what's pointless, and I can understand where people are coming from on that topic. :\

Just wondering if you have ever been to a slaughterhouse? Or seen footage of how animals suffer there? Even meat eaters can demand that animals can be treated better in their short lives. If you still want to eat them, you should AT LEAST take responsibilty for helping them to have lives without the violent abuse they suffer through in factory farms now.

I agree with this. I love meat and I love vegetables. Both are good and go good together
There's something I've noticed. I have a friend who claims to be vegetarian, yet she says its okay to eat chicken and fish. Her favorite food is sushi. And I don't get it... That seems a bit hypocritical to me. =/ Like fish and birds are not animals.

I'm totally using this.
I don't understand humanity and its mentality. o.O We're nothing more than animals with opposeable thumbs, stand upright, have a high sense of intellect and can speak. Otherwise, we do everything like animals do. And yet, while it's perfectly A-Okay for other animals to eat each other, we, while being nothing more than advanced animals, cannot?
I love meat. I love animals as well. It's a little something called a food chain. It's great stuff. ^-^

Food chain? So you think your reasoning is no better than that of a tiger? Humans are capable of morality - and living well as a vegetarian.

I'm not at all for abuse of animals in slaughter houses, and am an animal lover myself. However, I do not think EATING animals is counted as abuse. That's the difference.

I am a vegetarian
I'm not commenting on your work to put it down, just out of curiosity
As you have written, respecting both sides is crucial. I think you can still like animals while eating meat, sure! It does not mean you hate animals because you eat meat. If you grew up in a family that ate meat, sure, it's natural for you to eat meat and if you feel the need to eat meat, it's fine. I would just like to add to most of you who'll read this; eating meat is just as normal as being a vegetarian I'm a vegetarian and I still do sports, yes I am healthy, and I do everything else that a "normal" person does (normal in brackets because normal doesn't actually exist as we all know). Most people I know have not tolerated for me being a vegetarian and said negative comments, such as me dying at an age of 10 and such.
But I'm 15 and still alive!!
I know, I know... I see some comments about vegetarians who critizise you because you eat meat. Well you know what? Tell them, straight forward, to shut up (excuse the language). It is your own choice if you eat meat or not, and they should respect that choice. And You should respect their choice just the same
So heads up -- to EVERYONE!
If you eat meat or not, whether you're a vegetarian or you eat meat, it is your choice; and you shouldn't let anyone else influence that choice

ShinjiSaigohakai In reply to Mirou298 [2008-02-10 07:00:32 +0000 UTC]
You, my friend, are awesome. XD
I have the same view... I mean, if you choose to be vegetarian, than that's your choice, you know? Just like how it's people's choice to eat meat because we're omnivores, we can either accept it, or just decide not to. I have no problem with vegetarians.
I just have this huge issue with the extremists calling meat-eaters scum for eating meat and comparing it to murder. My friend is vegetarian, but you don't see me trying to force meat down her throat. Part of it is because she was born and raised as a vegetarian, so if she has any meat and animal products besides egg, cheese, and milk, she'll regurgitate everything. Another part of it is because I respect her choice enough not to force her to try it. So I don't see why all these hardcore vegetarians have to try to convince us that it's immoral to slaughter some cows and chickens.
My other friend also saw some person on TV say that: "People don't eat people, so I don't see why humans should eat animals."
I was just really...irritated by that argument. Because let's just face the truth: animals aren't humans. Yes, they have emotions, just like we do, they can feel pain, but they're not US. Humans have lived for HUNDREDS of years by killing animals, why should we suddenly stop now? I mean, instead of going for the extreme length, why not tell people to stop eating endangered animals first? And on top of that, somehow it's immoral for us to be eating meat, but not wrong for say, a chicken to be killing worms, an eagle to be killing snakes, lions killing gazelles? Is it because we feel compassion, unlike these animals who truly need it to survive? What is it?
And another thing about that girl's argument. People don't eat people? I'm sorry, I can't be polite, but she must've been completely alienated from TV and the internet. During times of war, like WWII and what not, many people ate other humans to survive. In fact, they still do in certain parts of the world.
But I guess that's what it really comes down to, willpower. Those people probably couldn't survive just from carrots or what not, they needed meat because they were starving.
Therefore, it's not an argument against you and your lifestyle. I just find it lucky that we're able to make a choice, but I find it irritating every time someone comes by and tells me that animals have feelings and that I shouldn't eat them, just like how I wouldn't eat my dog or cat. -_-

1. I was referring to how the above person said that people who eat meat cannot love animals. Therefore I put Native Americans/Ancient tribes as an example, to show how they loved animals but still ate meat.
2. I'm guessing this refers to the above. But no of course not.
3. I know that, but I'm mostly referring to extremists who do not balance out their diet.
4. Big macs are the worst thing on this planet. I have no clue how people can eat those disgusting things. Again, I'm referring to the extremists.
5. Perhaps in America where every meat eater goes to McDonalds everyday but not back in my home country. The American diet is horrible.
6. I don't quite understand what you mean, but I think you are saying how the animals are treated on American farms. Believe me it's stupid what they're doing, but there is nothing I can do about it. The food pyramid has nothing to do with how animals are treated on farms or factories.
7. We have more molars than canines because we are omnivores.
Oh don't worry I wasn't upset. I'm usually happy when people point out flaws or concerns from my arguments. Means I'm learning better.
I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

Meat is good. And animals are good. *sigh* I just don't understand vegetarians. XD Why do they think humans have canine teeth (which are designed to rip, yes you got it, meat!) if we supposed to live on lettuce and vitamin suppliments!? Not eating meat is like fighting the course of nature! And please, nobody call me heartless, i'm just doing what nature intended. It is possible to love animals and eat meat! Now... where did i put that steak?

Humans have exaggerated upper and lower canine teeth designed for tarring meat.
Shame some people ignore the scientific proof that's literally right there in their face.
They may not be as huge as that of other apes, but they're there, and they should be put to good use. Gnawing on twigs ain't gunna get you no protein.
My friend made himself a shirt that says "Proud Animal Eater" as a sort of 'in-your-face' to vegetarians. I found it rather amusing.
