there are SO many great duos in httyd and i kept coming up with cute illustration ideas. valka and cloudjumper, stoic and gobber, stormfly and astrid.... all GREAT characters! but nothing beats the power duo of hiccup and toothless. every single heart wrenching, tear-jerking, fist pumping moment for me has been with them. i chose to illustrate my own version of some of my favorite scenes thru the three films. there are multiple instances of hiccup being knocked off toothless' back and finding his way back while falling thru the air. i ADORE these moments; test drive, toothless found, and the finale of hidden world most of all. no matter the circumstances, hiccup and toothless will always find their way back to each other. that's why i've drawn them both free falling in this moment, reaching for each other and looking into each others' eyes. there's so much trust and love between them, as the sun highlights their shared history, in toothless' tail and hiccup's leg.

i haven't painted an illustration in a long time, so i hope it's ok ! drawn in photoshop cs6
