Description
My protagonist(???) donning envisioned Legion Frumentarii veteran power-ish armour, toting his gigantic Anti-Material Rifle(Oh how many mixed feelings I had about discovering Caesar's Legion in New Vegas...
Me, being a hopeless admirer of Rome and Caesar in particular *glances at the bust of him on the shelf* I cannot help but to feel a mix of nostalgia, awe, admiration and loathing when beholding the rising empire of NV.
What an excellent story writing - world power that is so hard to either hate or love.
Vale. True to Caesar! *salute*
++++
Finally got a little free time to... do... things... thanks to Thanksgiving and Don-rag.
So there!
Tried a lot of new things here. 'Tis was fun and refreshing

Rome was not built on innocence. Neither will the legion's future.

Pretty badass costume design. And I'm wondering if we would be able to see a Legion member who isn't cartoonishly evil. Like a Legionnaire who is wholeheartedly devoted to the ideals of Ceasar, but finds enslaving weaker tribes to be beneath him. Like there's no challenge.

Issue seems to be that most Legionnaires are heavily drilled, indoctrinated, and guided by the will of one man. I suspect they are very much discouraged to express their ideological differences.
The men you describe would've probably arisen when Caesar finally succeeded in establishing his true Empire (capture of the Dam and New Vegas). His tribal warrior nation would have been changed by having to run and manage an urban capital city and the lands around it.
Then, there would be a place for intellectuals and thinkers in the Legion. Alas, we'll never know.

True. However, I'd argue that character I've described would make for an interesting tragic character. Someone who, in the end, gets screwed over by the people he worships and admires.

No argument there, I am always for characters about which one can feel conflicted about. That's good writing.

Thanks. Hell, I even took that idea and wrote it down as an actual character. Although the closest excuse I can come up with is if he were the Courier. And even with that said, after the Legion are victorious at Hoover Dam, they end up killing him once he had fulfilled their purpose. It'd be a good foundation for a tragic character, since ironically he'd see the NCR as being a far greater evil by comparison. And it's the faction he devoted himself to that ends up killing him.

Nice. I would like to see more Legionaire classes that don't look like they would die after 2 bullet hits. Don't get me wrong, at close range they are cool, and even though I lean towards NCR, Joshua Graham, and Lyon's Pride and Riley's Rangers, I do think I like the fighting STYLE of Caesar's Legion, better. If NCR would just let me get away with wearing Centurion armor. Like a Samurai Gladiator.
Too bad there was no gun melee in New Vegas. I bet the legion would have like fused axe heads to gun butt stocks and large bayonettes. They should have also had riot shields and bayonettes. Swat shields would have went well with the whole roman getup. Think, Uzi, pistol, or sawn off shot gun in one hand and a light riot shield in the other, giving you protection from small fire and shrapnel.
Don't get me wrong, I think I liked the offensive recruits and stuff that would bum rush you with machetes, but also have like a defensive version with more armor also, that's not necessarily a higher rank as much as a different job.
I guess the legion would have really liked those weapons that DID actually exist, like brass knuckles that were also a pistol, a hatchet that was a flint lock pistol, and gun shields (yes, those actually existed). Get off one good shot before engaging in melee.
I know they hate technology, but who said they weren't hypocrites? Like if they had their own version of power armor that they got from reverse engineering stuff from Enclave. Maybe they would put retards or cripples in their to get something out of them....fit enough to still fight, but only a chance in the armor.
Also, a gladiator/berzerker class. Not sure what his weapons would be, probably a polearm fused with a simple rifle, a weapon that fires a net (possibly electrified, possibly a modded sawn off shot gun) a shield, perhaps a curved machete that helps them get around your sheild...perhaps fused with a gun or can be thrown like a machete?
I don't want to be ruthless like a Legionaire, but I do admire two things-they do believe you should strive to live for more than survival, as that is what separates us from animals (but what I believe in above me includes mercy to human needs and weekness, and the NCR would be somewhat better about that), and if you steal from them they just plainly say "you have no honor" with zeal and self righteousness. I want to be like that at times.

Oh shit that is some wicked looking Legion armor and weapon. I think they'd be more feared than they are if they came around like that. I love this concept! Well done!
Should follow me. I'm writing a TON of Legion fic; that's mainly what my page is becoming. The Legion Library. I think I worded the title by my name correctly on my profile. Also I have a lot of pics of Caesar, Lucius and Vulpes and Dead Sea all over the wastelands, lol.
Caesar was definitely a man of stature (in ancient Rome).
Vale. True to Caesar.

Happy to hear you like it
I can't promise much diligence in terms of following, I'm barely ever online, beside submitting new paintings - still have 1200+ messages in the inbox But what I've peeked at was lovely
In regards to "Ex Libris Legion" - I do not have a lot behind my belt in studying Latin, but I believe that "n" should be dropped for "Ex Libris Legio." Hope that's helpful.
Caesar Optimus Maximus!

Thanks. I got it off some site. I also grabbed a lot of latin quotes for the chapters of the story im starting on here.
I wanted that to say 'Library of the Legion" Will dropping the N still let it say that then?

If memory serves, "legion" is an englishized version of the actual Latin word "legio" (which means "legion"). So, if you wish to say "legion" in Latin, the word would be "legio".

Hmm. Looks waaaay more threatening than ole' Caesar.
Still, you and I would've faced glorious wasteland battle in a fight directed by John Woo. Rated PG-13. Starts July 2011. Lawls.
