The Legion gestalt as it would appear in my Shepard's universe, wearing her armor as opposed to the generic Onyx.A bit of a different approach- I went with 100% grayscale to start with. This let me focus on luminosity and detail before having to worry about color. By further breaking down the process, it helped curtail one of my biggest problems- impatience.

Yeah, I understand why they didn't, but it would have been really cool if they could have somehow changed the texture map for Legion's armor based on your ME1 Shepard.

Hehe, I should practice a lot more than I do. But I often discount what I do at work as practice, since it's different, but it does apply in an oblique kind of way. The trick is translating between the techniques, and that doesn't always work the way I want it to.
But it's true, it's kind of fun to look back and realize hey, even with how frustrated I can get, progress has been made!

A nice personal detail in the armour. Beyond that, I think the "flashlight head" is really well done, as is the way it presents the little device it's holding.
Just wondering: is this the moment from Exitus when Legion is on Horizon and gives Kaidan the voice recording of Shepard's death?

I wish. No, this is just artistic license on my part. Since in ME1 everyone had their favorite gear (and it sure as heck wasn't the weaksauce Onyx), I figure Legion *should* look a little different for each Shepard.

And what about the piece of Shepard's armor in Liara's apartment? Does that change?

Yeah, if you talk to Legion about it in-game, it talks about picking up the armor on Alchera. It's Shepard's. As for Liara's apartment... I don't know for sure, but based on what we've seen, I very much doubt it changes. It's just scenery, so I imagine it stays generic.

How were you able to make it look so awesome all colored up instead of looking way washed out?

I knew a straight multiply of color flats would do just that. The lights and flare were done overtop so they'd have a bit of blue in them, and the background added afterward. I tried to vary the hue of the color layers so that the variation wasn't just in the luminosity. Then I put a layer of the amber over everything (I think in Overlay) and it added a nice unifying tint.
Basically, once I had the grayscale, I did a lot of messing around with blending styles and layers. I had to make sure things like highlights weren't just flattened out.
