I worked on this for what feels like forevah!! But I'm really glad with my final result; looks like I'm slowly getting over my monochromatic lazy self. ^^
I need to work harder, but I'm getting there. I think.
Sniff. Remember that sad chapter twelve in which Toothless realizes he can't fly anymore and in his confusion, pain and anger he blames Hiccup for it?
Yeah, he's broken...
We all are, one way or another...

Well, it's not a book, it's a fanfiction that will be long enough one day to become a book (or it would if it wasn't fanfiction).
It's a Toothcup story, yet full of fantasy, drama but still has various funny moments (Note that I'm NOT praising myself, I'm just quoting some reviews :-P).

This is so pretty ! How did you manage to do such shadows and light effects ? Even without talking about the emotion, the drawing is beautiful ; and the character... Very moving

How did I manage? To be honest, I don't even know XD
I've been a monochromatic person for the last... five, six years? And I decided that for DevianArt I had to try harder than just clean line-arts. So I'm currently experimenting with colors and lights/shades, and it's killing meeee!!
But, in general, makes me feel happier with my art once I see it finished. It's a big step for me.
Should I believe it's the instinct? I don't know. I'm very observant and I watch and learn from whatever art I can get in contact with. Being an Art History geek also helps a lot. ^^
Besides, I'm a perfectionist, so I always take a lot of care of details... lots of details... That's one of my excuses to escape the color.
That's why this took me forever.

Art History geek ? Do you have a favorite period ? (I personaly love Italian Renaissance...

I adore everything Baroque, particularly the painting. I believe my total-favorite artist of all time is Caravaggio (italian, by the way 
But Renaissance is also fabulous. I pretty much love all art, from the Greeks until the Surrealists, everything is related. Though the modern art from the late XX century and onwards is rarely of my taste.

I know, right? He just has the weight of the world on his back. Or at least he does in my fic... not that our original Toothless doesn't have a quite eventful past, but in my fic... oh well.
