Description
My new project - corsets for the girls! Making it is pretty simple:- there are only 3 pieces - front, back and neck.
- you have to cut 4 pieces of the back and 4 pieces of the front
- it looks 'clean' (no sewing lines) on both sides, so it is completely reversible!
You can download the pattern (without colors and pictures) here on this link. Print it on A1 paper, and you get a 1:1 pattern.Β

Creating the no-sew style:
- just put two front pieces on each other (the nice side on the inside) and sew it where I drew the dashed line. Then turn it inside out. Repeat it with the other two fronts.
- the back one is a little bit tricker: sew together two backs on the spine line, the other two again, as long as you want (I did it until my waist line). Instead of this, you can just fold the back piece (cutting out two pieces instead of four), but then it does not open up on the bottom.
- cut out the neck piece, fold it in half, sew it where I drew the dashed line. The fourth, not clean edge goes inside the back pieces - now sew the back pieces along the dashed line.
- now put it together on the sides - I simply tucked the side of the back inside the side of the front piece.
At the end, put the metal holes in the front, and on the shoulders, and tie it with a nice lacing.
It took me about 3 hours, including figuring out the pattern (I drew the pattern on tracing paper, then took a photo and traced it just for you guys, it is in scale). You can print the pattern by resizing it if you want - for me, the straight back line was 80 cm (31,5 inch).
I want to do another one, which would be different color on the inside and on the outside. This way you would have two corsets

Yes, perfect for that! Actually, about a year ago, a huge facebook Steampunk community shared this pattern - I just realized it because it got so many favs back then.Β

You could choose to do the neck in a color that compliments both inside and outside colors.

Well I feel mine turned out a little big, since I would prefer if the front would not close completely. It depends what look you want to achieve. I think it looks good if its a little smaller, and the lacing shows up nicely. But if you want it to look the same, just divide the difference between your measurement and mine by 4, and add it to both pieces at the correct location.Β

Thank you, so much for taking the time to work out this pattern! Β I had found a pic online very similar to this that I absolutely LOVE and I was trying to figure out how to piece together some different patterns to make what I had seen (I have altered patterns before, but was worried about altering the bodice/corset patterns I've found to lengthen the back and add a collar...worried that it wouldn't fit or hang properly once made). Β This is VERY close to that pic and I can make the few small adjustments to get it to what I'm wanting! Β You've done a marvelous job and it is wonderful that you were willing to post your pattern at no cost! Β I know everyone needs a way to make money, but it can be difficult for those of us who LOVE dressing up for Renfests but are financially challenged! Β LOL Β I was going to attach the pic of the corset/coat I'd found that was similar, but can't figure out how! Β :-D Β Oh, well...

Β Β However I am finding myself at a loss, I have never printed out a pattern from the internet before and I have no idea how to print it to size or even what A1 paper is lol I was hoping you might be able to tell me how to download and print your pattern? Thank you so very much!

Sindeon In reply to Serena-Lyn [2015-05-12 06:51:30 +0000 UTC]
Hi! There is a link in the description to a dropbox file. A1 paper is an international paper size standard, 594*841 mm. (www.papersizes.org/a-paper-siz⦠)
Or, you just take that .pdf, and any program that opens a .pdf can print it for you for even letter or any other format: just set it to "print original size". I hope this helps!
