I was also wondering if the sleeves can be cut on the fold in one piece or is it necessary for them to be two pieces to fall like they do?

Okay I have a question is the bottom part Where the sleeve part is smallest, is that supposed to be as wide as the curve in the middle where they separate? I am confused about how this lines up to attatch to the arm pit. Does the bottom negative curve attach to the top positive curve or the curve in the middle? Thanks so much this is a beautiful coat, I’m trying to make one child size and the only thing that’s confused me is the arms

I'm gonna make this cloak for my mom for christmas. But I can't seem to know how to put together the hood, and what kind of fabric do you recomend?
Thanks!!

May I ask about fabric suggestions for this? Maybe a thick wool/fleece, or a suede?

My mind cannot wrap itself around the concept of your sleeves for this pattern, and it may just be me. It just can't figure out how they go together and how the are longer at the bottom. Otherwise, I am extremely excited to put this together! Everything else makes complete sense to me! Thanks for the pattern!

The curve where the top and the bottom meet on the layout adds together as the front (where the fur is). Well its not the nicest drawing I ever made to be honest Otherwise its a simple two-piece arm, the top is positive curved (for your shoulder) and the bottom is negative curved (for your armpits). Does it make sense?

I absolutely love this coat and I want to make it but I've never made a coat from a pattern like this. Any tips on how to start/measure/etc?

Well my best tip would be the following:
1. find your favorite coat that fits you well
2. try to draw my pattern on tracing paper using your good fitting coat as base
3.Β get the cheapest material you can (leftover bedsheet also works) and try to assemble it. Try it on, use pins to correct where it does not fit. Sometimes I even make 2 pre-versions when trying something new. When it fits as you want, cut it apart, and use it for the real textile as pattern. This way you can learn for very cheap

Why there isn't a part numbered VI (6)? The numbers skip from V (5) to VII (7).

Other than that, this is great and it shows clearly how everything fits together. I tried sewing before but I always had problems to put together all the pieces and to see how they fitted.Β

Thanks! I think this is what deviantart is for, right? To share your ideas, and try to help others creating what they want. Actually I am amazed my little coat pattern is liked by soooo many users, it makes me feel that I did not post it just into the air for nothing. But still waiting for someone to show me his/hers! This might seem stupid but how does one put together just the hood and the hood back?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sindeon In reply to Sicklecharm6644 [2015-01-30 09:53:58 +0000 UTC]

There are 3 shoulder pieces of the hood: one back and two fronts. It is open in the front, so you just sew one front piece to one side of the back, and the other front piece to the other side of the back. In the front, it closes with buttons.Β
I hope I answered your question but if you just google "medieval hood" you can see lots of examples and patterns. My hood is the same, the only difference being that the back part is long.Β

The wool material you use is a 100% wool? The wool don't scratch you?

(sorry for my english...)

This is so wonderful and just what I needed. I sew without patterns too, but I always check to see what the pattern should look like so I know how to cut textile. I don't really understand this piece for sleeves, so I guess I'll just make regular sleeves instead. Thank you very much. :3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sindeon In reply to ariena-anar [2014-03-18 18:05:12 +0000 UTC]

This was the first pattern I drew so it might be a little weird The reason for the arms is the following: the sewing is on both sides of the arms, not just on the bottom, so I can spare some material, and the wrist-curve is also done so that I dont lose any textile: the bottom one 'fits' into the top one when layed out. Oh I am even worse describing it than drawing it Β

why you don't make a remake from this pattern so, a little bit like this? :
sindeon.deviantart.com/art/Sim…

Now a question:

assumed, if i print the pattern in real size (1,5x 3).

Then I have it?

the measurement are nearly exactly like the coat on the picture?

(Sorry for my grammar errors)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sindeon In reply to AryaChan-love-wolves [2014-02-07 11:53:20 +0000 UTC]

This was the first ever pattern I made. I never use patterns for sewing - I make a mock-up version (real size) from tracing paper, try it on, modify as necessary and just start sewing.Β

I only made this because some people here on deviantart asked for it. I made a quick sketch by hand and scanned-colored it. Since it was well received, I decided to go on with this tradidion and try to post patterns.Β

My newer patterns: (sindeon.deviantart.com/art/Sim…

sindeon.deviantart.com/art/Elv…

sindeon.deviantart.com/art/Rev…

I made these in AutoCAD (well, I am an architect not a fashion designer, what else to except? ), so those are real sizes that you could print. I could even make a file (like a .pdf or something) 1:1 scale. Β

However this old one (my coat) was not, its just a sketch so I would not print it - it is not accurate enough. I was not planning on re-doing this, because I have some new stuff and I rather spend time on new Β
