“Officer down, I repeat—Officer DOWN.”
That was the first thing Sheriff Derek had spoken into his walkie, sweat dampening his forehead, his vision shaky and unfocused. The area had been engulfed in a ghostly fog, swallowing the shapes of the land with nothing but his fellow co-worker down in the tall grass, crimson staining the soil. His head twisted in the opposite direction, eyes glazed and wide. It was a mystery as to what would do such a deranged act, until it became apparent that whatever was responsible had been on its way back, it’s silhouette as wide as the trunks and as thick as the fear now induced in the armed officer. The only thing that could be made out was its face. It wasn’t some horrific beast or toothy grinned abomination, but rather the face of something else entirely. A infant. A child who’s eyes were black, with a mouth stained in red. Shooting it would only make it emanate the sound of what only could be described as a muffled baby monitor.
