Bonfire:
10/10/2011

The scent of it fills the night,
the white-gray snowy ash
moves on the gentle breeze.

     It's so warm,
     so inviting,
     like the cocoon of
     a lover's arms.

Warm sugar catches fire,
a pretty little blaze
of orange and red
curled about the white.
Now it's black,
but we pull it off the stick
with two cracker squares
and a bit of chocolate.

The laughter and the smiles
spread through us all
as the sticks are passed,
more blazes on the ends.

Perhaps these things
will not always be ours,
but we'll always seek them
with these people at our sides.

     It's so warm,
     so inviting,
     like the cocoon of
     a lover's arms.

This is a place,
            a scene,
            a memory of bonding,
                             of love,
                             of affection.

Thirteen people
around a bonfire,
a night with memories
that can't be renewed,
but an affection
that can be rekindled
from the tired embers.
