Description Open Your Vein
06/03/2013

Open your vein, little writer:
dip your quill in life’s ink,
spill your soul page after page.

Open your vein, young artist:
life’s paint is spilling forth
in steady strokes across the canvas.

Open your vein, sweet musician:
use your life’s music
to reach to other’s hearts.

You can’t expect to reach anyone
if you don’t first offer of yourself.

Your soul hides
in the words you write,
your experiences
dance across the canvas,
your heart is the rhythm
to which you compose.

Open your vein and bleed:
that is what we call art, after all.

This is... one of the best poems I've read on dA. I was checking your gallery after I saw you added me to your +Watch list ( thank you very much for that ) and I ended up running into this amazing poem that suddenly made me wish to draw the images I saw while reading this. I think this is truly inspirational and that you must be some sort of genius.

This poem has truly convinced me  that you deserve a +Watch in return.

You have no idea how much I needed to hear that today.
I'm actually working on a poetry collection to submit to a publishing company in a few months. I have really been ragging on myself and my work, and your response to this piece gives me the warmest of feelings inside.

It thrills me to the marrow of my very bones that this poem could be inspirational to a talented artist such as yourself. (And don't kid yourself: you are incredibly talented!)
I wrote this for a friend who was suffering some horrendous art block, and I think she would also be glad to know that inspiration could come from such a time in her life.

I'm not sure I'm a genius: I'm just a true believer in honesty in poetry. Covering things in metaphor is useful only if your audience is willing to look through the layers.
One of the things I've always loved about poetry is the stark, honest, simplicity of words that can touch you.

I thank you for such a wonderful response, and I hope that I prove worthy of such a wonderful response.

Aww, I'm glad to hear that and also it's good to hear that you like my art too. I have been suffering from that same art block because a friend asked me to draw something for him and when someone asks me to do that the art block kicks in with full force. Your poem did inspire me, but it inspired me to draw something related to it instead of finishing what I had already started. Ah, such a cruel world. xD

You're good at poetry, that's all I know, and I'm not saying that from the point of an expert in poetry since I hardly read any to begin it, but I'm saying it from the point of a normal person who simply read something beautiful and found it inspirational.

Good luck with the publishing company.

I understand completely, hon. I just agreed to send on chapters of a story to two friends as they were finished --and the story will not write for the life of me!
I hope your art-block leaves soon. If not, you may have to work through the inspiration you can find at the moment... and that can be really difficult when you just want to do that one thing...

I'm glad you like my poetry! I'm a big fan of poetry, but I like having to work through things and think them through. Some poetry is more of a puzzle than a message --and I like making my points directly, I guess. I'll dance around things more when I write anything else.
Still, I am immensely proud that something I wrote could inspire anyone!

I'm still fighting myself on that one, so it should be a joy. Still, I was debating adding this one to what would be sent, and after your response to it, I definitely will.

Actually I'm quite happy because my friend gave me green light to work on another drawing until I set up my desktop computer. Drawing a complicated piece of art on a laptop is Hell. >.>

Yes, send this poem too, it's be a shame if you didn't.

...I don't think I'd even be able to operate gimp on a desktop any more...! I'm so used to using my laptop that using a desktop briefly about killed me. Hey, your friend knows it will be worth the wait ((:

Yeah, but it will be a shame to take it down from here, as well, since so many have enjoyed it!

Art is suffering... Oh how I love you right now And how well this captures me/writing/art/ the creative heart/process.
I'm unsure if I'm even worthy of such beautiful words and it honestly left me quite speechless. Thank you so very much!

Hey, my muses hide everywhere. Nevermind the fact that they all seem to be male and quite gay. So fabulously gay!. :shot:

Your current struggle reminds me of several of my past struggles... Some things just feel way too personal to share, and I also have difficulty getting past that.

And, of course you are worthy of such words!
Never ever doubt that!
