"Sure i can do a trick, kid, look.."

Fire exploded into Almarean's palm, lighting up the dark alleyway and the strange child's wonder filled eyes.

Alm didn't know why the child was running around this dank alleyway at night. Less than reputable people skulked in the darkness, but the boy seemed to show no fear or worry. Perhaps he was one of the homeless kids.

As the flame grew in his hand, the childs face broke into a great big grin, and he clapped his hands together once.

"Oooo.. do you think i could do that?" He exclaimed, watching the magic use with fascination.

"Eh.. maybe.... it's not easy.." Alm said with a smirk. "Takes alot of work y'know.."

"Looks fun!" The child smiled, sitting back in his little alcove.

"More fun than ice, sure.." Alm said, extinguishing the flame with a shake of his hand. The child just tilted his head.

"Anyway" Alm said. "where's the Begger's Head bar? Y'promised you'd tell me.."

The small boy nodded and pointed back down the way Almarean had come.

"That way!"

Alm glanced over his shoulder, then nodded at the small boy.

"Must've overshot.. thanks. Aw Elf, Art's gonna kill me.." He turned and raised a hand to the child, who copied the motion. One moment's hesitation at the prospect of leaving a kid in this grotty place crossed over him, and he cleared his throat.

"Eh... where'dyou live? Shouldn't you be..getting back?"

The small boy looked thoughtful for a moment, as if considering that possibility, but then flashed the man a big smile.

"Momma said to wait here, she said she'd be back soon!"

A little eased by this, Almarean nodded and gave the boy a thumbs up.

"Alright kid..seeya. And eh, good luck with the magic thing..."

Alm turned and cheerfully started to walk back the way he came. Artion would freeze him to the wall if he missed their birthday drink, and he was running late as it was..

Back in the alleyway, the small child watched the older elf go, then smiled to himself, tossing his hand-stitched toy into the air a few times.

Magic really did look fun, perhaps he aught to give it a shot..
