Description
drawn/painted in PSThis piece, even though part of the world of Luma, was done as a gift for my excellent friend chashio . It then lead to an additional storyline in the Luma world.
Or rather, I should say it lead to additional story development, as that is still ongoing, involving the character of Kadine Ghral.
The castle is in a part of Luma that has not seen much development until now, the old nation of Varsmaer, on the northwest of the Great Sea. Varsmaer is west of Shirain, the homelands of Luthien Crabnuckel. It is not well known in his region and is sort of like a legend about a people who fight against the darkness to the far west.
Castle Ghral sits on the mountainous edge of Varsmaer in the north west, just along the Formaer Sea and the border with mythical DhuraDhuma, that terrible land of war and dreams, power and subjugation. The figures in the image - Kadine, at the top, and her advisor Garal, second down, look out toward the Sea, while the few remaining warriors stand watch along the walls.

Bit of an issue with any siege weapons or flaming arrows but I like the aesthetic appeal. Yet as a practical fortified home it looks like guns are a thing in this world for that castle is not really built for a medieval dispute, maybe a modernized castle but it is hard to say. I like it though.

Rooftops like that tower's remind me of Jabba's Palace and I just thought, "Medieval Jabba" Now I can't unsee Jabba's Palace shapes...

Hehe, awesome... Medieval Jabba would be very cool.
That cries out for an illustration...

It is a place that is sort of fading or in decline.

It probably doesn't have 'all' the comforts... I just have this feeling that there's no wifi

Amazing work J. I love when you draw from this perspective. This style would make a beautiful postcard for some popular castles. My favourite part however is the forest on the sides, with the little bird-like creatures flying away, and the rolling hills disappearing into the horizon. Just amazing work.

Almost hard not to... so many little stories have to find somewhere to put them.

Its difficult for you to draw outside of your style?

I suppose, in some ways, that's true.
I try to do different styles with mapping.
But for more standard illustration, I guess things do fall into a certain look.
It depends though, if I start it from a pencil sketch or if it's all digital.

First time I think I've seen Tudor style housing elements used with this type of castle, creates an interesting sense of familiar yet other.

What a visual treat! There's so much loving attention detail in this piece. The castle itself is wonderful, but I really enjoy the backdrop as well. Those soft fluffy clouds are perfect, as are the evergreens. I also really like how you've done the grass and the hills. All in all another fantastic piece of art.
Cheers,
