Description Lara Croft fanart. I love the new Tomb Raider. I was never a huge fan of the franchise but this game I adore. Finally a Lara I can respect.
I'm alive by the way~ Sorry for my long absence. Pencil sketch done in brown inks with brushes and pens. Color added in GIMP. I had fun smearing and dabbing ink with my fingers in this one.

I've never played a Tomb Raider game, but what was unrespectable about the old Lara?

She was treated like a sex symbol. Too focused on her BODY and what she could do with it rather than her character development. The new Tomb Raider takes you on a journey with not only Lara, but how she grows to be a strong dominant woman. The old Tomb Raider games portrayed her in a way that she was fearless, rather than you growing to believe she is a realistic character. The new Tomb Raider gave her a character that is MUCH more believable. Rather than her being fearless and not hesitating to do anything dangerous, she is uncertain with most things she has to do in the game, but she still does it even though she is frightful at first. It's that drive to make a difference and become who she sets out to be that gives her that boost to succeed in most things that she does. It's good Square went with that direction with Lara because I am sure any man or woman that goes out to war or any other dangerous situation to make a difference and succeed in their dreams isn't like "HEY!! I'm brave!! Try to kill me!"

You get the picture. Not saying the old Lara was horrible, but she was underdeveloped because I am sure Square wanted to have a video game icon that stood out compared to most and since there are not many female icons, they decided to be one of the first to go far with it. Their main issue was they focused too much on turning dudes on with her, rather than giving her a realistic and a believable strong character. You don't have to have a character be afraid of nothing and overly confident to make them amazing. In some instances it works if there is a lot of character development, but Square looks like they were trying too hard with Lara. I hope this cleared up anything you were confused about. :3
