If you asked me where my home was I couldn't give you a location, it's not a place per se, it's not a house, or a ship... Home is wherever my dear child is, and I am her Home as well... And I guess my only true fear is losing that Home... ~Quinn Shara's memoirs, Rebel Alliance years, reflecting on her relationship with Orchid, her adopted Chiss daughter.-------
I'm actually liking the idea of telling Quinn's story through memoirs, that go alongside the artwork, it's interesting for me to really get into her character, I hope you like em' too!
But yeah, more Star Wars OC AU stuff, you know me when it comes to Star Wars, once I start drawing it I can't stop!
Anyway, this little comic is a follow up to this:
After stalling the unbeatable Imperial advance on Hoth, Quinn's squadron mount their fighters and assist in evacuating the remaining transports, and whilst they finally strike lucky, with Darth Vader ordering Death Squadron to pursue the Millennium Falcon instead of them, it's still a grueling ordeal to regroup with the remainder of the Rebel fleet, the transport Quinn ended up escorting sustained substantial damage running the blockade, meaning it can only pull off sub-light speed. It took just shy of fifty hours flying escort, with no time to sleep in case of Imperial ambush, for them to finally reach the relative safety of the fleet, that time Quinn reflected upon the catastrophic retreat, and all the unspeakable things she'd seen that day, thousands of her comrades lying dead in the snow, nameless soldiers who gave their lives fighting tyranny, without even a grave for a reward...
When she landed however, her misery became elation, for even before she'd started taking off her pilot gear she'd been embraced by Orchid, she was home, however... She was different... And even Orchid could sense it...

Yeah, I decided to give Quinn that scar to keep after Hoth, it's something she carries with both pride and sorrow, a physical reminder of the sacrifice that day. Her eyes are red raw, really sore, but what do you expect after fifty hours of flying, if she weren't a Jedi she'd probably be dead, not only that though, before the flying was the Battle of Hoth itself, so she's probably been awake a good sixty plus hours... All that time though, Orchids been waiting, camping out in the hangar with her blanket and backpack (which contains all her worldly possessions), and before she'd even landed Quinn could sense the little girl's anxiety....
Ughh.... I really love these two... XD
By the way, does anyone else find it easier with colour-coded speech bubbles? It really helps me with my partial blindness!
Anyway, I really hope you like em', lemme know what you think, comments are greatly appreciated!

So I am thinking of some mischief...I know you haven't really fully crafted this part of the story...but my mischief may happen anyways.
Quinn looked up from Orchid to see Jaeriel standing quietly nearby, her arms crossed over her chest as she watched Orchid and Quinn's reunion.
She smiled at her friend. "Thank you for getting her out safely."
Jaeriel shrugged. "Don't expect me to make a habit of it Quinn, I didn't enjoy leaving like that."
"Thank you," Quinn repeated. "I know it was hard for you."
Jaeriel smiled. "You look like crap."
Quinn laughed, the expression causing her face to hurt from the bruising she'd received during the battle.
"Yeah well," she looked down at Orchid who was still looking up at her tearfully. "Oh come here," she said to her chiss daughter, wrapping the blue skinned girl in her arms tightly. "I'm fine see? I'm right here." as she ran her hands through Orchid's hair, she looked up at Jaeriel again, tears in her own eyes as Orchid clung to her tightly.
She wondered if Jaeriel truly understood what it meant to Quinn that she'd gotten Orchid off of Hoth. If there had been any lingering questions about Jaeriel's loyalty they were well and truly gone now even with all her secrets, she had proven to Quinn at least that she could be trusted.
"QUINN!"
Quinn turned to see a breathless Saki come running up to her, panting heavily.
"Have," she panted. "Have you seen Isabelle?"
Quinn frowned, shaking her head. "No, I got knocked out during the fighting and woke up on the transport."
Saki swallowed, opening her mouth and then closing it again. The normally jubilant togruta seemingly at a loss for words.
A gentle hand touched Quinn's shoulder and she turned to find Hakiim looking at her solemnly, though that was a common thing for the duros mechanic.
"Captain Devon has found peace."
Quinn blinked. "What?"
Hakiim bowed his head, pressing his hands together in front of his chest.
"Isabelle has found peace, you must lead us now."
Besides Hakiim, Jaeriel stiffened, her deep blue eyes widening. Quinn frowned and turned back to look at Saki who was looking at the floor sullenly.
"What are you talking about? Isabelle is fine she was-" she stopped as she realized that Isabelle should have been on the transport with her. She'd been so exhausted and worried about Orchid that she hadn't bothered to check on her one time friend and commanding officer's condition.
"No," she said with a shake of her head. "You can't be serious, not Izzy!"
Hakiim bowed deeper. "You are our leader now Quinn, the mantle has passed from master to apprentice."
"STOP THAT!" Quinn shouted, jerking around and accidentally whipping Orchid with her. "Saki check the manifest! Find Isabelle!"
Saki was close to tears as she turned away and scrunched her eyes tightly.
"No," Quinn murmured as she remembered her last moment with Isabelle. 'May the Force be with you.' she'd muttered as they'd passed in the trenches...and Quinn hadn't even been sure if she'd heard the words or if it had been a trick of the wind.
"Mom?" Orchid asked as Quinn deflated, slumping to the hangar floor.
"It's alright," Quinn said as she held her daughter tightly. "Mom's fine, don't worry." she looked up at Hakiim, Saki and Jaeriel. "We're all fine...all of us."

It's funny in a way because this is a lot kinder than my plans for this... ;w; I kinda' want Isabelle's death to be witnessed by Quinn, it's something that really effects her, as Quinn is concussed from shrapnel and Isabelle is saving her, Isabelle herself having busted her leg during combat, as they're running clear of a looming AT-AT a damaged snowspeeder kamikaze's it, Isabelle has just enough time to throw Quinn clear but is herself crushed by the falling giant... When Quinn comes back she's really quiet, just glad to see Orchid and Jaeriel, and when it's apparent Izzy is the only one who back yet and the others ask if she's heard from her Quinn crumbles, I actually imagine Juniqua to freak out, and be in denial.
I Really like this though, I love everything between Quinn and Jaeriel, and really like Hakiim too, I'm thinking that, when Saki (followed by Juniqua) questions Quinn she remains silent, and starts trembling, and then Hakiim says that Isabelle has found rest, and Quinn collapses, and that's when it dawns on everyone, Juniqua emotional and in denial claiming he has no proof, and pleading for Quinn it speak contrary, to which she can't...

Well then I shall have to adjust my mischief to take this into account. I'd thought that Quinn lost consciousness after the AT-ST grenade strike and Isabelle carried her to safety, throwing her clear when said walker came down on them.
This though is certainly far crueler I must admit, I'll have to see if I can capture such a scene.
I'm worried about this particular piece of mischief because I know you haven't yet finished the comic surrounding the events and I don't want to fudge up your story as I just did here!

Aye, i'd actually drawn up a good three or four pages more of said comic, but alas, due to an incident in which my stepdad completely disregarded my property, said pages ended up being thrown out into the garbage... I'm gonna probably restart it sometime in the future, and adjust it since there are more characters now (Jaeriel especially, as that comic predated the decision to include her in Goldsaber If I recall. ;w; ), and also my art has improved since then and I want it to be consistent. ;w; So no need to worry too much. And hey, you didn't fudge it up, it's my fault for leaving this so long without a proper explaination, plus there are great elements here that can definitely be incorporated, making it all the more better!

You know the piece I (rather selfishly) want to see most from you is that one during the Battle of Endor where Jaeriel is pulling Orchid out of her mother's X-wing...that I really want to see even though I know it is probably lost forever...wish I'd saved that preview you'd sent me!
I'm rather surprised that you don't hate me considering how often I steal your material honestly hehe. I mean here I am scheming again and you're perfectly fine with it!

Aye, I'll definitely have to redo that sometime, I'm almost certain it was among the stuff my stepdad threw out, we've been at odds for a while now, I think he just wants me out the house (and if I could get my own place I'd be more than willing to oblige, but then we'd live in a perfect world... XD)... I think it's still saved in my stash at least, so I can find that image probably and use it as a reference at the very least.
You're kidding, right? I owe a hell of a lot of my views and watchers over the past year or so to your stories, the exposure has been a massive boost in confidence, and that in turn has kept me motivated to improve my skills, and develop my characters better than ever before, and the feeling that people like my characters enough to actually want to include them in their work is amazing, it's an unquantifiable joy reading them. ^w^

Don't feel too pressured though, I just love that piece (and wish I still had the image). It was quite awesome really.
I think you give me far too much credit for the popularity of your characters. They're solid characters in their own right and you had a well endowed storyline long before I became involved and started making a muckery of everything...I just showed up and ran away with things as I am wont to do. With or without my participating in the matter, I think you'd have gained the following you have now just on token of the fact that your art is so commendable and your characters so endearing.
