Description i did this tile according to a concept i made but unfortunately even with 2k textures the result in UDK is unsatisfying...still, its cute so i won't abandon in completely because i made 2 more..maybe i'll use it in some other project..so here it is..

how did you UV and bake this was it all one mesh. Did you have to separate it into pieces to get good bakes

i don't remember separating anything, but i usually do it for more complicated geometry..it's all one mesh, 2k texture. it's the reason why i abandoned this approach; too much time needed, memory consumption and lack of details up close. i still like those models so i guess i'll use them somewhere...

I dig this! I have to ask, is the entire piece sculpted in Zbrush? How did you manage such fine detail? Is it broken into a ton of subtools? Thanks!

hey man,Β
your stuff is amaazing!
dynamesh helped a lot, i think i wouldn't even try without it. i blocked the model in max and the rest was all zbrush without subtools..
of course, it took a lot of time/memory in UDK so i abandoned it. live and learn Β

Ah I see, I tried something similar with my Puss in Boots piece but I had it broken up into sub tools and it just became too unwieldy. Your piece is way more successful!!!

And thank you for the kind words!

that piece turned out great! Β besides the subtool unwieldiness i think it's the same problem i ran into..too much work/memory for a game asset. well i hope we won't have to worry about memory in near future at least

Thanks! Here's hoping someday we won't have to worry about poly counts!

Its been a while since I commented on your stuff (what's happened to me) - looks pretty cute to me even if you did find it a little unsatisfying. I find it amazing you manage to get so much detail into the textures in the first place considering what the mesh looks like.

hey man
tnx, it's not that i dont like it, it turned out pretty well considering the complicated mesh but it really sticks out once i place it among the less complicated ( and sharper )tiles. the time and resources i would spend making at least 20 more of those would be an overkill. i guess THAT was unsatisfying
