Description
So here’s Steban’s model sheet!This is a study to better understand the way our cowdog moves and expresses himself, just like in Martin’s sheet!
Again, this provided me with a lot of insights to his character. Like the fact that he doesn’t know what to do with his back legs and usually moves them around awkwardly. Unless he’s running. Then Steban knows how to use them like no one!
He’s a very free-spirited and happy-go-lucky character with a positive view on things even when they have clearly gone wrong. Well, you guys know him!
This was loads of fun to draw, goodness!
Some of his poses amazingly fit Martin’s, even if mostly weren’t planned to do so!
Can you guess which ones could be part of the same scene?
I’ll soon post a little sheet with some of their poses combined!

I have a feeling that the poses falling down are the same, the running poses, when Martin and Steban lying down (full stomachs) , Martin sleeping while Steban stretches, Martin jumping and Steban jumping, and when they are sad. These are amazing Skailla, inspires me to make a few of my Up and Ahead characters too.

Skailla! I have a question!
so to make these sheets do you just draw your characters in random poses? Or...what? I know these help a lot with the characters movement, but how do you know which poses to draw them in?

There are many ways to chose the poses!
I usually just like to ask myself questions like "What would Steban look like when he's waking up? Ah, he'd probably stretch with a big smile on his face!"
and just imagine which poses and expressions suit him best overall! For example, since he's a very optimist and energetic character, he moves around a lot and by his own will, always laughing or smiling. When he stops to admire something, he has that stupid stunned face and back legs going apart, because nearly everything looks like an adventure to him. Naturally, when you think of a sad expression for him, he'd probably try to hide his face away, since this doesn't fit him and he doesn't know how to administrate sadness. Almost as if he was ashamed of feeling sad.
In Martin's sheet, you can see how much he hates moving. He's always got that desperate look while he's running or jumping, and can only be happy while laying or sitting down. He keeps a closed expression almost all the time, since he likes to keep an emotional distance from everything and everyone, completely opposite to Steban, who wears his heart on his sleeve.
Imagining little scenarios in your head will help you a lot to chose your poses! Ask yourself things like "What does my character looks like when he's sad? Or when he's excited? Maybe running for his life? Is he laughing in the face of danger or peeing himself?"
You can do a little list of essential expressions to guide you as well. Write general expressions like "Cheerful", "angry" or "Sarcastic" for them and imagine the scenarios! 
Another good thing you could do is to look for other pose sheets! I'll show you some good ones!
