Lol, the only problem with this anecdote is that it was actually useful to make a space pen. Pencils created a hazard if the lead broke, and the wood of a pencil is obviously flammable under certain conditions, so while they did use pencils at first, they did eventually develop a pen since it was better.
But, that aside, it's still funny! Love America's expression in the last panel
