The model Ash Ketchum was based on

A character in SSBB ( although his new look is the one that appeared)

As you have noticed, the Pokemon Trainer Red you see above isn't the one you see in SSBB, or in Fire red/ leaf green. It's because this version of red is the one from the Original Red/blue version, and in Pokemon stadium 1 and 2 and seen in some cases of the Pokemon trading card game base set.

For me i prefer this Red because he looks more badass, his intimidating demeanor shows more, he looks like a kid which further gives the impression of "wow... a kid of 10 yrs, has become the most powerful trainer of all time".

And of course not to disappoint any fan girls but, this Red looks cooler than the new one in my opinion, with his jacket open and all that, the leaf logo in his cap, the fierce and arrogant look in his eye......... this is the ORIGINAL POKEMON TRAINER RED!!!! , only people who have lived through the original red/blue version and gold/ silver version can understand!!!!
