Description This is my sculpt of SkekTek, the Skeksis Scientist.
Corrupted beyond all notion of good and evil, SkekTek relishes in science as a child would relish in his twisted experiments over the lesser sentient beings which inhabit the planet his kind is ruling, as if they were an amusement and not some sort of abominable torture.
He went to the heights of cutting out part of his own circulatory system and replacing it with external tubes to monitor it...he also replaced one of his legs and an atrophied arm with mechanical devices in an attempt at becoming more powerful. His right eye was blinded, and he fixed it with a flare lens he used to inspect his experiments more keenly.
Nevertheless, he had kept actual knowledge and cunning, which led him to create an artifact which reflected the sunbeams into the eyes of his experimental subjects through a minor cryastal, draining their vital essence, and turning them into mindless slaves while it provided the skeksis with Vliya (vital essence) which was to be consumed by their Emperor, who suffered greatly inder the weight of ages.

He is made of Cold Porcelain clay and cloth, and painted with acrylics...every detail pit into him and his fellows (whom you'll see in latter pictures) were completely made by hand.

ENJOY!

DISCLAIMER:    I do NOT OWN any of the skeksis or other Dark Crystal characters. Their races, likenesess  and particular personalities and demeanor were created by, and are property of Jim Henson,Brian Froud, Frank Oz and the many people who worked in the making of The Dark Crystal (1982)*

As well done as your other Skeks!  This guy doesn't seem to quite as 'glamorous '  and fancy garbed as his fellows.   He also seems a bit longer in the neck.  Stay away from me Dr.  Scary!

Creepyness and danger danger danger.
One ought to know better before asking any kind of tending or treatment from him.
Sometimes the remedy could be worst than the sickness!
SkekTek is one of those doctors who would gladly rip out your beating heart to study your reaction to his actions, instead of just giving you some heart pills!

queenmoreta In reply to SkekLa [2015-01-29 16:09:04 +0000 UTC]

yeaaaah any sickness is double the pain when your only choice is to go to Tek... though if you had a religious approach, you COULD go to Zok but even then I dread to think how that would go. XD

SkekLa In reply to queenmoreta [2015-01-29 19:13:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes...he would rather enjoy poisoning you so to srtudy and observe how much pain can one endure without dying...or BEFORE dying, that would be.
Also yes, there's always SkekZok...but why do I imagine he would just tell me to mind my own business and not interrupt his higher activities because of my petite mals...or -if he would happen to be at a more amused mood- screaming at me to bend, and ask the heavens for forgiveness, while kaning me with his scepter?

Tek is terrifying enough, I wouldn't entrust my health to him DX. And as much as I like Zok I wouldn't trust it to him either!. excuse me while I go to Aughra instead!.

oh dear god! I can picture him doing that!... just like on old school teacher!

True!...Tek might as well enjoy experimenting or just watching one suffer...and Zok, well, as I told you...might go into religious rage and then...poor us!!!
HAHAH YES!! But um...considering in this fandom I do identify with skeksis and I even have an avatar that is one...hymmm...I wonder how would she react to that!---
SkekLa the Illustrator: "Excuse me...mother Aughra...I feel rather sick...would you help me?...please?...yes?..."
Aughra: . . .

YES!!!! Like an old school teacher going religiously berserk!!!

hahah oh god! La and Aughra, it makes me giggle to think about but then again, she was friends with Tek in his youth soooo perhaps she could develop a 'friendship' with SkekLa? I could see that happening , maybe she could like La's illustrations.

ohgod! makes me want to hide even more..... *hugs Zok instead*

Hmmmmmmight be.
Hopefully!
i mean, she liked SkekTek whenn he was an Urskek, and perhaps she even liked him the first years of his skeksis life, when they were not mean but just eccentric...
But then...I wonder whether she'd like the Illustrator...she despises Skekekt afterv all, and considering he's very feminine and an artist too...I wonder if Aughra wouldn't think SkekLa is just a sissy-wimpy-drawing freak...sigh.

Weird how one KNOWS one shoul hide, but ends up wanting to hug a skeksis instead.
I've the same issue with those guys too.
You know, that feeling that they'd JUST HAVE TO see you as family and ally if they did exist?...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

queenmoreta In reply to SkekLa [2015-02-02 18:18:41 +0000 UTC]

When I read the description I thought it sounded like she befriended him when he was a Skeksis so yeah I can agree there, liking him before he went insane.

It makes me wonder, Aughra can be hard to read at times XD.

oh yes I feel that if you were to even be considered a 'friend' to them you would have to gain their trust and, like you said be seen as family and ally .

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SkekLa In reply to queenmoreta [2015-02-10 12:57:47 +0000 UTC]

TRUE!
It does sound like she had a friendship with his Urskek oerson, then when split, she befriended his Skeksis self...only to get horribly mad at im after he started with his experiments...after all, anyways, who would just sit down and decay in life?...what SkekTek does is awful...but I can't say I don't understand him!...if I had any chance to make youth and/or  life eternal for those I care about, and myself...I'd definitely do it (even if it sounds twisted and evil!)

OH YES...She seems to go "where the wiond blows"-..though not always does it...like when she suggests to the skeksis she would have handled them Jen if asked...was she meaning it? Was she only telling them off and wanted to make them think only because of their stupidity they lost the chance to get a hold of Jen?...who knows....

Of course!...They give nothing for free...in some sense they do good.
Being too trusty leads one to...whatever others have in store for you...some might appear friendly while hiding a knife under their sleeves!
So...it'd all be a matter of earning their trust, which would be hard, at that-...but worth a try!

oh yes very much! I can sympathise, I mean that can't be nice to try to live your life but see yourself decaying more and more over time : (.
I can imagine it being such a thing that would leave some getting rather desperate.

I have a character who is slowely withering away due to a curse (I looked at the Skeksis as inspiration for the withered flesh look X3). He has grown rather accepting as he hasn't found a cure but it is a big concern for him. Trying to find some way to cure it D:.

I love Aughra, she is such a mystery and leaves us wondering! <3.

definitely, they have to try and keep one step above the other >: 3.

SkekLa In reply to queenmoreta [2015-02-14 16:21:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes...I kinda know what that's like...I was healthy as anyone as a kid, but by my 12's more or less, I started to develop allergies, to have stomach problems, until I devloped an ulcera...and now by my 32's I don't even recognize myself. I get nasty burns if I stay more than 3  minutes under the sunlight, my joints have issues and easily become dislocated, I get sick if I eat green vegetables, and my skin even  tends to fall off if I don't mind the sunlight...seriously...as my experience goes, aging sucks...
Sorry for whining like so!...but it's the sad truth...
How not to simpathize with these guys?!...

Poor guy!...Sounds like he might do for an interesting story though! I hope he can find a cure or either get to live with the curse, and lern to deal with it...if possible!

Oh yes!...wrinkly cool old hag!...

Hmmm...I ponder I would not be as power thirsty as most of them...not for the throne at least...but I would certinly do try to keep my allies in a good favoring position, through the power of rumor and using as much skills as I could gather in order to keep them in the heights...Then again, that would be like "helping things happen from the shadows"...hrhrhrhr....
That is more or less what my character does, SkekLa the Illustrator. "She" (although it's still called a "he" by most others) is an all to the Chamberlain, who she's very attached to and calls him her "brother", although it bothers him. The Ornamentalist and the Gourmand are her other allies, as they are in the Chamberlain's triunvirate. The Illustrator works for the Scrollkeeper, nevertheless, as she illustrates his scrolls about history, myths, tales and biology.

Perhaps one day I can craft some stories for this skeksis at the court without ruining the original dynamics of the others!...We'll see if they accept me,,,eh, her, in!

oh wow! sounds like you were hit pretty hard with some bad health issues D:. ahhh don't worry about it, I don't see you as whining, and yes I can agree! suffering from things like that, I could imagine you being able to sympathise with them even more.

Well at the moment he has put up with it and lived with it for quite some years now and it is slowely draining away his physical strength/life. He makes sure to eat enough and keep his strength up, to get by but it is getting increasingly harder. He also battles his enemies. Luckily he's a magic user, they aren't really known for their physical strength.
I am currently working on an idea that I am going to draw, where one of his friends has found out exactly what condition his health is in and she is upset and angry at him.
He will eventually find a cure, I had a rough idea for it years ago but I have gone back to it and I am trying to develop it further .

Ooooooh! yeah! though I think that seems to work with a lot of them, spreading rumors to get the better of each other XD.
hahah I do like that!, calling him brother, it is sweet and it is funny to think of his reaction XD.

Sounds like she has quite a few allies then, which is good for her . Still I wonder how she and Tek would get along? XD.

hmm I wonder what would happen if La illustrated something from the texts, then Ok changed the record, tried passing it by as truth but everyone sees the illustration of what it originally was!.

Ooooooh I would love to see that! I think you would do them very well!, I don't think you would ruin the original dynamics at all!  .

^^ You are most kind, as many of my everyday friends where I live in say I'm whiny because of my- for example- sciatica issues...my backbone is crazy these days, it's darn hot and damp around here, we are in summer's end now...and sometime my back hurts like hell!
When I get up from a chaior I'll possibly whimper a bit...they HATE THAT!!!
But what can I do?
So...thanks for the comprhension, dear! ^^
And yes...I was kinda hit by too many small illnesses, quite soon in life...thus I can easily simpathyze with the horror these guys show to decaying alive!!!
.

Good story, as I said before!
So, yes, as a magic user he'll need not that much strength as cunning and knowledge of his powers...but hopefully he'll find a cure so the curse won't end up eating him whole!
His friend, I'm not surprised that she'd be mad at him for keeping it up for himself if that implies he'd played dumb and said anything about his condition!...
Oh...well, developing good stories usually takes time! ^^
It will be worth the time when it's made and perfected!

.

That would certainly be my approach at it!
Ahh good old Chamberlain...what could I call him but a brother? After watching the movie when I was about 7-8 years old, I remember thinkiong of how he looked like in the banishing scene, when the kids at school bullied me (which they did in a rather violent way, daily-basis)
I even recall thinking I sgould look like him aftre the other kid's pummels...silly, huh? ^^

As many as she can get to have liking her! ^^u
Tek? Oh, I believe she'd be quite fascinated by his inventions and experiments, though she'd possibly be slightly afraid of him as all the others are,. and possibly somewhat disgusted by his treatments of other living beings at times...though not enough as not to go snoop around his lab now and then!
Now that I think so, in my backstory for her, SkekLa gets her right index broken and mishap by SlaveMaster SkekNa, after she has refused to kill a reluctant slave. The Emperor's orders are that she'd be punished so, in order to reward the SlaveMaster with his vengeance upon her for defying him, and so to have her remembering the trespass she commited each time she works from that day on. The destroyed phalanxes will never ceas to hurt whenever she holds her quill.
Then, it was when both the Ornamentalist and the Chamberlain get to work to fix their ally, in order to remain under her simpathy in gret part, for they know she sometimes enjoys to make satiric drawings which have run through bthe whole castle, and put to ridicule many of her least-favorite ones amongst the court.
The Ornamentalist designs a silver articulated claw, and the Chamberlain goes to the Scientist with great flattery and the request to fix the mishap finger of the Illustrator, so she can draw good again, and they can all still enjoy her skills in a proper manner.
Secretly, the Illustrator is summoned to the laboratory, and presented with the silver claw...which she consents to have put in her hand, so she can hold her quill straight again, something she cannot do since the incident.
The scientist promplty gets her to sit in a chair, where he hurrily straps her, to much her horror. He knows things will not come easy with what he'll do.
After having secured SkekLa to the chair, SkekTek procceeds to screw the claw to her phalanxes, in the points where they remain as entire as to keep the whole finger in position and allow it to bend properly once healed. As the screws go through her finger, SkekLa luckily faints as the pain is way too much for her to handle.
Once awake, she discovers herself loose from the straps and wielding a silvery claw attached forever to her hand...it does allow her to hold her utensils like she once did, and it keeps her fingers' destroyed aspect off the view, but it certainly does not reliev her pain as she was hoping for it to do.
So: both things end up accomplished: SkekSo's will for the Illustrator to never forget her trespass of refusing to take reprisal from a reluctant slave, and insulting the Slave Master, and SkekLa's will to be able to draw once more.

Time after this events, I ponder she would have a mix of respect and fear of SkekTek...she'd be grateful for his assistance...thoguh horrified by the way and the pain it took to be given!

PHEW!!!
Sorry for the LONG paragraph!...I thought it'd be worth telling you more of the story!^^
.

Heheheh I kinda have  comic strip's script about such thing!
She draws something about an "incursion" to some villages, and does so in a quite accurate way, though SkekSo thinks it is better to change the record to something less bloody, and SkekOk changes it...to much his horror when he sees the drawing is still the old one!...Then forces SkekLa to illustrate some sugared scene of concordance, which is also too "sweet looking" and doesn't please the Emperor either!
.

I have written some strips about her living there, and her interactions to others...I will start to slowly draw them intercaled to the Ask replies! ^^

sciatica too? oh man DX, sounds like you were really dealt a lousy card!. Hey! I don't see it as whining, we all have limits and sometimes these things can frustrate us, we need to vent it out. So don't worry hon!. I'm a good listener .

Well he doesn't exactly play dumb but he can be frustratingly silent with others and when he does talk, he be rather cryptic ;.
He is my most developed character and I am still fine tuning and developing him further .

Oh wow! no need to apologise , it was fascinating to read!. I just love the cruel irony of that idea, she needs her finger to draw so, not only does she lose it, get it replaced with an artificial one but have it hurt every time she uses it. I think that is a very good reminder to learn from right there.

Oh really??? that is so awesome!! XD, I love how with that idea, you can turn SkekOks actions against him bwahahah!.

Ooooh sweet!! I can't wait to see them! .

Yup. Sciatica and cervical problems indeed...
Aww thanks for the kindness...yes, sometimes when the body becomes so bothersome one tends to frustrate a big deal (I do at least! XD)

hehehe YES

WOW...He still (each moment more) feels like a very good character worthy to work with and develop!

Thank goodness you didn't hate the LONG paragraph!
Yes, that was the Emperor's will under her punishment: to have that skeksis never forget what she did when she rebeled against the empire's old ways: nobody does without paying a price. Hers was eternal pain in her working hand.

Oh yes it can be done...Poor little runt! He better watch out carefully what the illustrator does!

YAY I'll try to keep on drawing faster!!!

queenmoreta In reply to SkekLa [2015-02-23 18:08:00 +0000 UTC]

well still! it sounds like a horrible team up your body has pitted against you!. *hugs*

oh thank you!, I do enjoy developing him. He's a spellcaster and he is powerful but I like him to be balanced, not over powered. I mean I don't worry about him being a scene stealer as he isn't the arrogant hero type who always steals the limelight. No this grumpy guy wants to be left alone to his studies XD.

again such cruel irony! I love it!. her strength is her art, it is what she is identified for and most likely what she enjoys but because of her actions, she has had this painful punishment set into place.

bwahahahah!!

ahhh you just draw at the speed that works best for you <3. Don't want you feeling rushed!

SkekLa In reply to queenmoreta [2015-03-01 16:12:32 +0000 UTC]

Yes...I try not to think much of it or else I'll feel completely skeksified... :

That sort of characters are the ones who steal my attention always!
That's why Sméagol, why the skeksis (though I ponder the skeksis wanted to be in the limelights but that is another point, they didn't get it once old...poor things mine!... )

Yep. I think that is precisely why the Emperor chose such punishment over any others. He enjoyed taking others down for fun, so with a skeksis who doesn't desire his throne as SkekLa is...what could he take off from her in order to make her remember forever that she had done wrong?...and to have fun by watching her grief too?...
Let her still do her job, but make sure each time she does it she'll suffer horrid pain!...

Gonna make that drawing about that one time when he....NEVERMIND!...

It's been a week since I try to finish and ink a set of 3 pages for  comic...COMPLICATED!!!!! But without all 3 pages it doesn't work because it's quite cinematic and has a lot of movement...eeeegh...-.Gonna color it too, probably....my eyes hurt!!!! O.O

queenmoreta In reply to SkekLa [2015-03-01 16:29:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I wouldn't want to think about it too much either D:.

Really?? well I have plenty pictures of him in my gallery XD;;, always wearing a red hooded cloak.

I do like the character types that seem to have broken down bodies, I don't know if that has anything to do with my interest in the undead. I was looking into another of my favorite characters last night, the awesome Horned King from The Black Cauldron. ooooh he has such a horrifyingly grisly death D8.

It makes me wonder if Zok might find something to relate to in that, seeing as the emperor built him up with his religious beliefs just to shoot him back down again. Poor Zok... poor la. : (.

Oh man! it sounds so complicated! it makes me eager to see it. Don't let people make you feel rushed, as it sounds like a lot of work is going to go into it .

Gonna check for him now!!!
OOOO NOW I SAW HIM!!! Damino, right?
Seems like a nice fellow to me!...I know, I know, a bit moody and strange, but those are the fellows I LIKE!!!
The reaction meme of him is priceless!!!

YES!!! The horned king is spectacular and so well based for a demi god of death in a celtic envoronment!!!!
Perhaps it is because of that?......I too do like those kind of designs...but again,. as I told you, it might have to do with my feel that I'm ever "falling to pieces"...XD A personal..thingy of some kind, in my case

Possibly! Though I don't think he would do much to aid her since she is an ally to the Chamberlain, who Zok tollerates quite badly, ands would possibly incurr on the Emperor's wrath if helped the "scribbling albino" too much!

Oh it is...I'm still coloring through it even when I (tahnk GOD) have finished inking it!...It's long and complicated in it's content...simple plot, complicated sequences...yeeeesh!

Yus! that's the guy!, he is moody/grumpy because he is in pain a lot of the time. That curse hurts him and has drained his health (physical mass) quite badly, he is skin and bone under those robes, he is slowely withering away .

awww I am so glad to hear you like him X3, he is fun to draw!.

eeeeee! a fellow Horned King fan!
Yeah, because you are going through the sort of health issues that you are, you can relate to them and I feel you could get a better understanding to how they must feel.

Ahh yes very true! and since he has already fallen victim to the Emperors amusement, I am sure it is something he doesn't want to go through again.

Wow really??? still all your hard work in your art can be seen and enjoyed by a lot of people. . These things take time to work on and put love into, it's why I hate when people make artists feel rushed.

He's fun to look at, too, and that's a very good sign! ^^

YEP. his design was awesome!!!

Possibly, yes...once you start to have pains everywhere, and know they are chronical...every time you watch something like "the dark crystal" you go all like "MEHHHH If gelfling essence could make all this rackety pains go away I'd squeeze them alive too!"...That, said on a creaky old woman's voice, while waving a kane X)

I wouldn't blame him for stepping back!

nope, he deals pretty well and he is grumpy and not very social anyway, so people just accept it as that. Only a select few know he can have moments where he is going through a spat of pain as some of it comes and goes.

Ooohh heheh thank you! I am so happy to hear you find him fun to look at
