yeah, it is a mistake, though it wouldn't have happened if you'd just read the information on the image OR in the description. you could at least correct yourself
and yes, i'm pretty sure it would offend considering you're projecting a gender onto a character that the artist has SPECIFICALLY stated that they go by they/them pronouns.
it's just as bad as commenting on someones character that states they're male, but then calling them "she" just because you feel like it.

i'm not offended because i don't own the character, i'm simply correcting you and telling you why it was wrong. why is that so hard for you to understand. this isn't about the character being offended because, as you said, they're not real. that's right. this is about the artist. i've experienced my characters being misgendered many times and i can tell you that it's not a nice feeling at all. (especially considering the artist themself goes by the same pronouns lol)
of course i can't speak for the artist in this case but either way, you used the wrong pronouns. it's as simple as that. refusing to correct yourself and now referrring to them as "it" is kinda transphobic whether you intended that or not

pointing out that you made a mistake that could hurt someone is not focusing on a minimum detail. transphobia is a big deal. you don't get to decide that it's not. it's not just about one person being offended by this one occasion, it's about respecting all trans people by correcting your transphobic actions. you're the one who's making a big deal out of someone asking you to correct yourself which would be extremely easy. all you had to do was pay attention to the characters pronouns (which are RIGHT THERE in the description) and make an effort to not make the same mistake again in the future.Β
