Description The beautiful characters of *Rubilight , I had so much fun experimenting with the overlays on this one!
Ru is just a cutie, I love my amphibians, especially glowy ones that fly! Ri'indra was a nice challenge, though I think I really messed up his wings XD.

Look at Rubilight's wonderful part! Aaahhh! SO awesome!

Can I ask how you do the textures? and that GLOW?!

Well, textures are just playing with layers. If you know layers and layer types, you know there are things like overlay, multiply, screen, etc.

I just go on google images, pick up a texture or, i this case, a picture of the night sky, make a new layer right above the background (since I don't want stars on my characters), and set the layer to "overlay".

For the characters themselves, I usually use a watercolor or grunge texture, make a layer right above the line layer, and overlay away.

That's just the basic stuff.

For the GLOW, I made a layer right under the characters and put my airbrush and pen pressure to work. Additionally, I made a layer OVER the characters and made it so it would seem the wisps are coming out of the dragon's hands.

Lighting is really important here when making glows, the light needs to not only reflect off of the other characters, but the character itself! So, here, as you can see, I experimented with coloring lines to match the lighting.

Hope this helps a bit, sorry if it's a bit wordy!

That's EXACTLY what I suspected! I'm familiar with the different layer types, I can assure you I've used them a few times before I wasn't sure if it were a brush or a mere texture on overlay, because I've never used any watercolor or grunge texture brushes before. Thanks so much for the help! The reason I asked was because I keep seeing people use that style of art EVERYWHERE, and I thought it looked really cool and made the picture look amazing.

For starters:
What would be a good, reasonably priced tablet to get so I can have pen pressure? :U

The first tablet I ever had was the Wacom CTL-460 Bamboo Pen Tablet.
It's a very good beginner tablet with all the basics (pen pressure and etc.).
It's about 60 dollars on amazon, 50 dollars used. I would check it out!
