#24: Moblins

You know 'em, you hate 'em, you're not sure if their pigs or bull dogs. It's the Moblins!

We've officially moved up into the real time villain category by now! Moblins were obviously a must for this line up, they're some of the most iconic monsters from the Zelda series... well, by name that is. More so than any monster in the series, Moblins have changed the most appearance wise, and speaking of that there's something that's always bothered me about them.

Moblins are foot soldiers created by Ganon to be in his own image which, find it silly or not, has always been a pig-like monster... so, with that in mind, why is it that in nearly all of the games Molbins look more like Bulldogs or Boxers?

This is why I went with the Wind Waker look, not only did they finally get the pig look down, but it's the only game that actually made them a true threat, which I feel they should be! As just stated, Moblins are creatures made in Ganon's image, so they're basically smaller versions of himself, despite this in almost all of the games they're shameful one-hit wonders that really pose no threat. Why is that? Don't you think Ganon would make warriors that look like him actually represent him positively?

However, in Wind Waker, while bumbling and stupid looking, Moblins actually managed to be a real threat if you weren't careful. They weren't common enemies, and they actually bordered on mid-boss level. They had long range and were very powerful and even if you took their spear they could still get you if you weren't paying attention. (and while this really didn't effect my decision, being able to use their weapon was awesome!)

This is how I feel Moblins should be. They're no joke... but definitely not the WORST things you'll encounter. I feel it makes more sense, given what they are and I really can't deny the whole pig-like look of them! They supposed to look like Ganon, not friggin' Pitbulls!

They also seemed to finally have a personality put too them once Wind Waker came about, as opposed to incredibly wooden, cut and pasted monsters to wander forests aimlessly XD So there ya go, that's my opinion! Enjoy

I am now experiencing tragic flashbacks of Link losing his sword, forcing him to sneak through Moblin after Moblin to rescue his sister, and feeling stupid for getting caught.

I feel your pain... at least in that case, the whole sneaking around and having to avoid getting caught made sense when it was your first mission and you had no sword. I always found it BS that in OoT, you had to not be seen by the Gerudo and gave up so easily when it happened. Link has hacked through monster after monster, I'm pretty sure he could take on all the Gerudo lol

I'm sure there's a likely explanation about not wanting to startle the horde, but that explanation would likely come from fans rather than the developers, themselves. Then again, Link is the hero of time, and wields all sorts of magical equipment, so taking on Gerudo warriors couldn't be impossible. Not to knock down Nintendo, but come now, have a smidgen more faith in your heroic protagonist.
