Description
‘Visual Speak’ contest essay:In a world so paraded with technology it seems as though life is nothing but a visual conversation.
Through the prominence of optical aids by way of cell phones, e-mail, magazines, computers, billboards, the World Wide Web, etc. – vocal reverberation has become an unrequited cacophony replaced instead with images speaking far louder than words.
‘Visual Speak’ is united, without creed and without prejudice; a founded existence where hearts and minds alike use various mediums to converse. Through the use of such mediums anyone with an idea, a vision, an inspiration, can speak this one language – this one language that never requires translation and where any one understanding does not supersede or eviscerate the next. This indissoluble Visual Speak requires no etiquette or phonic, just an open apperception and wide eyes as fuel for the imagination.
The contest requirements include that each submission include a short essay explaining how the art “Speaks Visual”. How does my image speak visually? That’s open to your own perception. ‘NVIDIA is the world leader in visual computing technologies and the inventor of the GPU, a high-performance processor which generates breathtaking, interactive graphics on workstations, personal computers, game consoles, and mobile devices.’ My intent was to create an image that could visually speak such abilities. I focused on using crisp, vibrant colors and an element of whimsy in an effort to capture peoples visual attention. It is my hope that this goal was achieved.
My ‘NVIDIA Visual Speak’ image was created with Poser and Photoshop and with the help of an NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT Graphics Card.
Thank you so much for checking out my work, and good luck to all the contestants. There is some amazing talent here on DA and it's always a delight to see what everyone come's up with.

I'm so happy (but not at all surprised) you're in the top tier of entries!
And I'm even happier that you won't REALLY crap your pants if you won. You'd smell funny. On the other hand, I now have an excuse to use the following emoticons:

Make sure the size and resolution is high enough!

I'm good - it's 2550 x 3300, it's at 300 DPI, it's got the claw in there, and it's a JPEG. I read the instructions before entering.

Download and zoom. Then right-click and look at the properties. This image IS 2550px × 3300px. The artist downsized it for gallery display, so when you full-view it, you can see the whole thing on your screen.

I think models counts as stock if you didn't make them yourself. I don't see your source, listed, it's a just in case.
I don't mean to be critical, it's just something I changed from my piece too because I didn't make my models, only posed them and composited, etc. but you wouldn't wanna get disqualified due to a technicality.

Hey there 300Pockets, I noticed that statement before creating my image, and I'm not too worried about it. They don't specify very well the requirements in the 3D category of how the piece has to be created, but the 3D category states: "3D art emphasizes the creation of art that scales to the Cartesian coordinates (X,Y,Z) on a 2D digital canvas. Such items include 3D renders from a 3D program, or art where 3D depictions account for the majority of the artwork." If that is the case then the image I have created should be just fine (as would yours). I wouldn't really consider my image to have 'stock' content as 'stock art' is generally defined as existing photographs, clip art, vectors and illustrations that can be licensed for specific uses. I suppose if they wanted to disqualify my image for using base models within my 3D program, that would be their prerogative, but I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks for the concern.

I was wondering about that myself. Kind of vague rules. They really should have clarified that for the 3-D category, since so much 3-d art is created using base characters.
Lovely image, I hope it qualifies!!

I feel the same way. I just figured what the heck, I'll enter, and if it's not considered because I've used base models I'm not going to sweat it. That would have been an error on their part by not providing more info for the 3D category in my opinion. If I don't win, it definitely wont be the first time; I had a fun time making the entry anyways. That's the way I look at it. I see the contests as more of a challenge to see what I can come up with, I don't look at them as, 'Oh my gosh I gotta win this or else.' That would kind of take the fun out of it. So anyhoo that's my thoughts.
I have checked out your gallery and you have some really beautiful stuff. I gave you the ol' deviantwatch
and I can't wait to see more by you. Thanks so much for the lovely comment.

Very healthy attitude. I've seen too many artists get discouraged or just plain ticked-off when their image failed to win something. It really defeats the purpose of making art if your sole motivation is to make other people like it. Art is personal... if you're happy with your work and you push yourself creatively, then you're a success -- no matter what anyone else thinks.
So, congrats on making such a lovely image. In my book it already IS a winner!!

I've seen it all too often myself, and it is a shame. You should just enjoy what you do and feel good about it - that's the best "Prize" a person could receive in my opinion. Art, in any form, from amateur to professional quality is supposed to make you feel good; Stressing out about it defeats the purpose. Sounds like you and I have a similar point of view.

Yeah, it wasn't meant to be critical, thanks for taking it as an inquiry rather. I did mine with a skeleton "talking" to an eye originally, and it was a better piece definitely with the skeleton (more expressive) but I replaced it because I really really want that laptop!

Wow, fantastic modeling and especially texturing. Very nice detail on the cloth.
Hopefully you don't mind me giving you just a few suggestions:
1. Fix up the alpha around the cloth edges, they're looking blurred and flat.
2. The elbow area looks strange. It looks like it is clipping into itself and the shadows aren't working correctly, giving it a hard edge. Your rig might need to deform better in that area, though I know it is a difficult area to deform. You might be able to fix it up in Photoshop a bit.
3. There doesn't seem to be a main light source, work on the lighting setup a bit, maybe make the nvidia claw an emitter to cast a bit of green on your model.
Other than those little areas, this is sweet. Don't feel that you have to take any of my suggestions, I'm just putting them out there to help.
