Description
This is an entry for Ginbug’s contest. The characters are my original creation based on his Ginverse stories. You should go read them.[link]
Conquest:
It’s a mixed scale game were teams of 12, 6 defenders and 6 runners, attempt to capture the opposing team’s base flag. Larger races play the defenders while the smaller races are the runners who grab the flag. Runners wear power armor that protects them from full contact with players 30+ times their size. Runners can be eliminated by physical removal to the “dead zone”, though the defender must also remain out for 1 minute. Swallowing a runner is automatic removal to the dead zone, meaning the defender is out for as long as it takes to retrieve the runner.
Defenders wear jump suits with ridges or honey comb patterns that allow climbing, (suits are smoother in arenas with low gravity or jet packs). They also have three flags. Remove the leg one and they are rooted to that spot for 30 seconds. Remove the one in the back and they are out for 2 minutes, and eliminated if you remove the head flag. Deferent arenas have their own conditions and obstacles.
The Star Knights:
They hail from Troden, a hybrid city. Its planet was originally a base for the invaders of Earth where captured humans were brought. After the war ended, the invaders evacuated leaving the humans behind. In ten years they had constructed their own city when Nova Knights arrived to establish a military base. The new hybrid city was established, and the Knights get their name from the base. Their home arena is the old human settlement.
In the first season the Star Knight finished dead last. This season they are currently ranked second. The team’s defenders include three Neko (2 females and 1 male), a female Fanacta, a male Trugon, and a female Noras. The team’s runners consist of four humans (1 female and 3 males), a female Goonta and a male Noras. The captains are Mirin and Sam.
Rin and Sam have been best friends since the met at the age eight when Sam was exploring the non-human areas of Troden. Sam has always been fearless, though reckless is a more accurate term. He is often quiet and cool as ice water, to the point that some people will ask if there’s something wrong with him. (Rin never seems to have a problem getting emotional responses out of him.) An indestructible suit only made it worse as a lack of self preservation found him getting eliminated every time last season. Rin manage to “cure” him of that by practicing with him, without armor.
Rin is athletic and tall, even for a Neko. Despite this, her personality is sweet and gentle. When competition time comes she can become as stern as a drill sergeant, but, if you really know her, it’s hard to take that act seriously. That was part of her problem last season as the team captain. That’s not to say she lacks leadership quality. With a roster shake up and long off season training, she finally has a team that respects her.
But the biggest factor in their success this season has been the invention of the “whip shot.” Basically, Sam grabs on to Rin’s tail and she uses the momentum to flick him. Intense practice has given her incredible accuracy, to about the area of a Neko’s head. From there, Sam just keeps his cool enough to grab the head flag, or in some cases the base flag. Since the game is still new, there is no rule against it. They are able to continue using it while the rules committee reviews it. (Its first use freaked out a Neko player.)
