Personality

Gentleman/Polite - Communicative - Cheerful - Sneaky - Clingy

At his core, Kelpie is a cat who is very civil and chivalrous. He is very polite, loving manners sometimes to an extreme. He is a confident cat who comes across as both refined and cavalier. Kelpie is pretty in tune with his feelings and has no issue (generally) expressing them. He enjoys talking with others and communication is a must with him. He struggles with cats who don’t understand how to communicate well or who feel the need to hide things. It doesn’t make sense to him. Kelpie is typically a very upbeat and happy cat. It often comes across as though he sees the world with rose colored glasses, when he really doesn’t. He just understands how to see the silver lining and holds on to that with a death grip. Often clashing with his need for manners, he often uses the view that others have of him as a gentlemanly cat to his advantage. He’s skilled in sneaking around and slipping into places he shouldn’t be, and talking his way out of situations he shouldn’t be able to. Kelpie understands how to read others and how to use that to his advantage. He just can’t seem to help it — plus the adults seem to like what he has to say so why should he stop now? Be it a subconscious fear of being left brought on by his father’s sudden passing, Kelpie doesn’t like being alone. He clings to the only supposed family he has now: Gracilaria. Should he grow close to another cat, it’s very likely he’ll need to have firm boundaries set so he doesn’t follow them around, constantly shadowing them.

History

Kelpie was born to two strays living close to the docks. Asher and Ember, though Asher’s name has been all but forgotten by now. He was the only one in his litter, and though some nights were lean, the small family was filled with nothing but love for each other and the sea. And for Kelpie, the sea was like a sibling. He spent as much of his waking hours toddling about in it as much as was possible. His parents joked he was their little catfish. At least, he thinks his father did.

Asher passed away not too long after Kelpie had just started making memories of the sea. The only memories he left behind was a soft voice, warm fur, and a steady hand. Not much else for the cheetah cub to go off on. It wasn’t too long after — at least he doesn’t remember it being too long — that Ember found a new cat to help raise him with. As most young cubs do, and just like the flowing of the tide, Kelpie quickly fell happily into the new rhythm of life; this time with a cub practically his same age.

Gracilaria was her name, and Kelpie quickly took to the young cub and attached himself to her. Like he, she had a love of the sea and as much as they could they spent their time dashing through the waves.

This new-found peace was not to last either. Upon being discovered by a patrol, and in fear of being taken from the sea, Gracilaria and Kelpie ran; their parents’ shouting and urging to hide ringing in their ears. And just like the disappearance of his father Kelpie’s mother disappeared from his life leaving him alone with Gracilaria. His sister. At least he thought that’s what she was, for what else was there to be? There had only been ‘mother’ and ‘father’, so ‘sister’ was the only thing that made sense.

At first the two young cats struggled as they learned to fend for themselves. Fortunately they had the sea, the one constant in their two young lives. The one thing they could count on besides each other. Despite the constant changes in his life, he himself had stayed. Gracilaria was still here. And he vowed he would never lose her. Whether it had been the sea’s will his parents had gone or something else, Kelpie was now determined to change the course of his history and not lose another.

However, Massilia is much like the sea. Constantly moving, constantly changing, constantly there. And for two young cats determined to not move, they may have their hands full with the changing of times.
