Merinthophobia: the fear of being bound or tied up.

This is my depiction of what a mermaid would be afraid of when traversing a ship's graveyard. This is also a true to life portrayal of what happens in our oceans these days. Beautiful creatures are often subject to the pollution in their waters, including nets from fisherman.

I also thought that this would be an interesting idea, since this mermaid is part dolphin. Being trapped underwater by binding nets would be a life-threatening ordeal, given that they can only be underwater for a limited amount of time before they need to surface for air. This would ultimately be the mermaid's undoing, like any other creature trapped in a stray net.
