[Season 6 Spoilers]So, evidently, there's an upcoming episode where Spike befriends a Changeling. I'm open to this idea. Maybe he could be a more prevalent Spikefriend than Peewee was. You know, the phoenix baby.

Could be Kevin. Could be another changeling. Carapace is a different color; Kevin had the standard dark blue one, while this one appears to have a turquoise-ish one. Different changeling, or same changeling with a different carapace?

It could still be a "she". Perhaps the video editors cut out the "s" part of the word for the trailer? And besides, maybe Spike mistakenly called the Changeling a "he". After all, how do you distinguish between male and female Changelings?

You watch, Shining Armor is going to have the gall to ask the irrational and totally unjustified question, "What if he's lying?" and the episode, as well as the other characters will immediately brand him a verminous racist scumbag and next pony Hitler.
... Okay, I'm exaggerating, of course, but we all know the notion that he's pulling a ploy will be brushed off as being 'over paranoid' by Spike and those on his side.

Given the trauma he went through under Chrysalis? Irrationality would likely be the regrettable but unavoidable outcome. But I don't think the writers are going to write him that extreme; he'll probably come around.

And you know what? I agree with you absolutely 100%. Shining and Cadence went through a living nightmare that by all rights would require serious counselling in real life. Of course, this is a kid's show and the realistic damage of such events is never really tapped into, perhaps for the better.
And as this is a kid's show, you're most assuredly right, the writers are decidedly not going to go Grimdark Ron the Death Eater on Shining. The writers, old and new, understand the tone and spirit of this show and I can't see them carelessly tearing down his character like that.
All I'd like to see is the episode treating his anger as justified. Shining is morally and ethically wrong to be prejudice against changelings, but his feelings come from a genuine place feeling of hurt and shame that anyone with a brain can relate to. He's allowed to be angry over what happened to him and Cadence, and it baffles me how so many fanfics refuse to even grant him that right. Even if the changeling Spike befriends has committed no crime, Shining's not being a hardass purely for the sake of being a douche, and I hope that comes through during the episode.
He's going to be shown as being wrong, that goes without saying, I just want him to be wrong for the right reasons.
