Got a verse with Faron!Duke on the brain where he and Josh aren't related but still become adopted brothers.

I've had several variants of it over time but basically... when Josh's father (Patton) passes away he runs away from home to avoid being taken in by family members that want him mostly for the little bit of money Patton left to him and nothing else. He runs through the old and less than maintained park near his home and stumbles through a rift into another world.

Sometimes he gets found by Duke while he's out hunting but for this version he gets taken in by a family of giants that treat him like a pampered pet. Josh is scared but lightens up after a bit... only for the truth of him being cared for to be a treat for the youngest son's birthday.

He manages to run away yet again.

And Duke is called onto the case. He's good at recovering lost things and he doesn't ask too many questions so long as he's paid decently. A missing human will earn him quite a bit of cash so he's all for it. And that's if he doesn't find a higher bidder before he returns it.

But he's not quite expecting his target to be a fucking kid. And it pisses him off. He makes up his mind after he sees him, he's not taking the kid back just to be killed. He's taking him home with him. They'll... figure something out after that.

This just an excuse to have Duke be gruff and grumbly so I can have him melt over his tiny adoptive brother. |T
