  • Chosen Name: Ruin

  • Hero Name: Ruin

  • Real name: Aiden Darrow

  • Nicknames: N/A

  • Age: 26

  • Sex/Gender: Cis Male

  • Orientation: Asexual

  • Species: Human

  • Ethnicity: Italian/Scottish

  • Nationality: American

  • Current residency: Mulberry Street, Manhattan, NY

Physical appearance:

  • Eyes: Brown

  • Hair: Short, messy, brown, along with a goatee

  • Build: Average, muscular

  • Height: 6' 2”

Powers:

Black Symbiotic Costume: Ruin can stick to walls, can change his appearance to any form of clothing, armor, or appearance; and also has unlimited webbing, which takes on a more black tendril form in his case. Unlike most symbiotes, Ruin can't form weapons from his limbs, but he does possess the ability to create numerous tendrils, of varying sizes, that can stretch out to several feet away. Ruin also seems to have some sort of quick-healing ability, like his predecessors. Given the fact that the symbiote had fully bonded to Aiden, and the sheer force of will that he commands, the symbiote's durability seems to surpass that of most of it's siblings and predecessors. In addition, Ruin is completely immune to sonic attacks, but is still affected by extreme heat to some degree. This too is likely due to the full bonding process.

  • Superhuman Strength: He possesses vast superhuman strength, able to lift between 60 to 90 tons at a time.

  • Superhuman Speed: He can move or run at speeds greater than any normal human being, capable of even catching up to most automobiles on foot.

  • Superhuman Stamina: He can fully exert himself for at least 36 hours until fatigue impairs him.

  • Superhuman Agility: His agility is superior to any normal human being

  • Superhuman Reflexes: His reflexes are superior to any normal human being, capable of dodging many forms of attack (including firearms) if he is aware of the attack and is far enough away.

  • Superhuman Durability: He is much more resistant to injury than many other symbiotes, but still is weak to extreme heat to a minor degree. The tissue the symbiote is composed of renders Aiden's body much harder and much more resistant to physical injury than the body of an ordinary human. Ruin can withstand high caliber bullets, great impact forces, powerful energy blasts, and falls from great heights without sustaining physical injury. He is durable enough that he can withstand multiple barrages of high caliber weapons such as machine guns from close range, completely unscathed. He can withstand blows from some superhuman beings and be relatively unharmed. He also possesses an extreme resistance to pain.

  • Genetic Memory: The symbiote possesses some limited psychic ability, making it capable of obtaining information from its host and memories from Venom's previous hosts.

  • Symbiote Detection: The symbiote is also capable of psychically detecting others of its kind, however with effort this ability can be blocked.

  • ESP (Spider-Sense): Ruin is also granted an extrasensory ability similar to Spider-Man’s spider-sense. This response is not as complicated as Spider-Man’s inherent sense since the alien costume can detect danger from every direction and conduct Ruin in plenty of time. It's a lot more efficient than Spider-Man’s spider-sense because it is more simplified to where the danger is.

  • Immunity to Spider-man's Spider Sense: Due to Spider-man being a host to the main symbiote, Ruin is able to bypass Spider-man's spider-sense.

  • Constituent-Matter Generation: Ruin can also use the same substance comprising the symbiote in the form of tendril-like matter. This can be used offensively as a form of attack, or defensively to create a barrier between Ruin or the attacker, or even be used to restrain them.

  • Constituent-Matter Manipulation: Although Ruin can't manipulate his mass on command or form weapons from appendages, he can change the amount and/or size of the tendrils that he can create. Ruin can instead forgo this process to create a single tendril that can instead travel a great distance.

  • Accelerated Healing Factor: The symbiote is capable of healing injuries in the host at a faster rate than normal human healing allows. The symbiote is even capable of healing injuries and illness that current human medical care cannot, such as cancer.

  • Camouflage Capabilities: The symbiote is capable of mimicking the appearance of any form of clothing, armor, or appearance. Unlike many other symbiotes, however, it can't blend into its surroundings or take on the physical appearance of anyone else.

  • Wall Crawling: Much like Spider-man, Ruin has the ability to cling to virtually any surface. He can rapidly crawl, walk, or run across even slick/wet surfaces.

  • Webbing Generation: Ruin can project his matter into a powerful, organic web-like substance similar to the webbing Spider-man has. He typically uses this webbing to swing from one point to the next, or as a means of immobilizing someone. The webbing is incredibly strong.

Personality:
Typically easy-going, but has a short fuse when the right nerve is struck. He has a tendency to crack bad jokes and puns, to either lighten the mood or as a defense mechanism. Fiercely loyal to those he befriends. Always rushes to the aid of those in need, when able. Although new to the superhero gig, compared to many other heroes, he remains true to himself and what he believes to be right.

Backstory/Origins:

Aiden Darrow grew up as part of a busy blue-collar family. His father, James Darrow, was a hard-working mechanic, while his mother, Alicia Darrow, was a detective for the NYPD, known and respected throughout the neighborhood for her efforts to help take down the various crime syndicates infesting New York.

Most of Aiden’s youth was spent with his father at the shop, learning the value of hard work and dedication to one’s craft. His mother spent a lot of her time working cases, but was always there for him when he needed her most. She taught him the importance of justice and determination, in an imperfect world, and that although the system typically works, sometimes matters had to be taken into your own hands. This resonated with him, sometimes leading to trouble, as he would get into fights with bullies, defending other kids.

This led to many defeats at first, coming home with busted lips, black eyes, and other assorted bumps and bruises. Although Aiden’s parents did not agree with one another on his extracurricular activities, they at least came to terms with each other, to teach him how to defend himself. His father taught him aspects of street fighting and that anything goes in a fight, along with precise strikes and takedowns from his mother. Although he promised his father to cut down on the fighting, he rarely lost ever since.

All things considered, Aiden’s life was turning out well. He excelled in his classes and even managed to win the heart of the girl next door, Gabriela Catalan.

His world changed, however, when he reached his mid 20s. When visiting his parents at their apartment, he arrived to the horror of police and ambulance, as he discovered that both of his parents were gunned down by hitmen, hired by Kingpin, as revenge for her assistance with putting him behind bars. With no proof to tie Fisk to the crime, Aiden decided to take justice into his own hands.

Armed with his father's pistol he intended to walk the streets and gather information about the Kingpin's location, no matter the cost. Nearly crushed by the debris of Anti-Venom and Venom bursting through the FEAST facility, Aiden was forced to take a detour, but was unaware that something decided to follow. A piece of the Venom symbiote, that was ripped away from Venom while Anti-Venom was curing him, became a new lifeform of its own, and was drawn by the strong emotions emanating from Aiden. Out of sight, and without warning, it latched onto Aiden and bonded with him.

Waking up with newfound powers, and the voice of the symbiote in his head, the two continued Aiden's mission. After roughing up enough thugs, he figured out exactly where Fisk was hiding. Breaking into the tower, he took on the Kingpin but was not prepared for the counter-measures that Fisk activated. With symbiote ripped away from him, due to a barage of sonic waves, Aiden was beaten to a pulp and thrown out of the high-rise window. Thankfully the symbiote latched onto him on his way down, rebonding to him and saving his life.

The process of healing left the symbiote weak and on the verge of death, and even then it was unable to heal the internal bleeding that would eventually kill Aiden. The only option was to fully bond with the symbiote, all the way down to a cellular level. This would provide the symbiote the strength to live on, and to heal what's left of Aiden's life-threatening wounds. Reluctantly, Aiden agreed.

Although not at 100%, Aiden remembered Fisk's last words, about ending the life of all of those close to him, which put his girlfriend and mother's life at risk. Aiden managed to sneak into the hospital, just in time to save his mother, but gave into his anger, warping him into something more monstrous, causing his mother to recoil in fear. Realizing what was happening to him, he fled the hospital, attempting to clear his mind while questioning why it happened.

Arriving at Gabriela’s apartment, he was surprised to see that she had taken care of the hitmen herself. She thought that Aiden, in his symbiote form, was with the armed men and tried to attack him, only for him to block the attacks and embrace her. Revealing who he is, he promised to explain everything to her after he put an end to the madness.

Returning to the Kingpin, in a surprise attack, the fight went very different than the first time. Slowly losing himself to the anger again, Aiden manages to regain control right before he attempted to bite off Fisk's head. Fighting himself, Fisk tried to take advantage, only to be shoved out of the window as Aiden thrashed about.

Spider-Man arrived in the nick of time, following Aiden's path of destruction, saving Kingpin. After a quick exchange of words, Aiden attacks Spider-Man, frustrated that he would spare the life of someone responsible for so much death, and who bends the justice system to his will. Although Spider-Man proved to be more agile and far more experienced in combat, it was Aiden's protest of Spider-Man not knowing what it's like to lose someone close to him that throws Spider-Man off. This provides Aiden with an opening, slamming Spider-Man to the ground and knocking him unconscious.

Unfortunately for Aiden, Kingpin had recovered enough to call in some of his men, armed with rocket launchers, during his fight with Spider-Man. Not willing to have any die because of his actions, he quickly ran to Spider-Man and created a barrier with his tendrils. The barrier was able to absorb the numerous blasts from the rockets, but not without throwing him out of the window, again, and knocking him out.

Waking up within a containment cell, he is greeted to the sight of the Fantastic Four, and a worried Spider-Man. Reed Richards explains that the symbiote is not a clone of the Venom symbiote, but isn't exactly it's offspring either. Anti-Venom's attempt to cure Mac Gargan created a schism, breaking off a part of the symbiote into one similar to Venom, but yet a symbiote of its own. Spider-Man commented on the fact that Fisk's office was left in ruins, and both Aiden and the symbiote enjoyed the sound of that, deciding to take on “Ruin” as their name.

Reed Richards insisted that Aiden remained, so that more experiments could be completed, but Aiden refused. The Fantastic Four stated that they'd keep an eye on him, ensuring that if Aiden ever lost control, or decided to use his new powers for evil, that they would stop him. Before leaving, Spider-Man stopped Aiden, explaining that he too understood what great lose was like, and that getting revenge on those responsible doesn't fill that void, nor does it bring back those who were lost. He explained that the best thing that Aiden could do was to use his powers to help others, and do what he can to keep others from experiencing the same fate - that with great power, comes great responsibility.

Aiden took those words to heart, and has worked as a hero to the people of New York, and sometimes beyond, ever since.

Appearances:

  • Dark Reign: Norman Osborn was in the process of going through his “list” and tying up loose ends. Being a friend of Spider-Man's, Ruin could easily expose Mac Gargan/Venom as a fraud, and not the actual friendly neighborhood spider. Killing two birds with one stones, Osborn had Mac take on the appearance of Ruin and commit various crimes. By the time Ruin was able to stop Mac, the symbiote shifted Mac back into his more Spider-Man like form, making it appear as if Ruin was attacking Spider-Man, on top of his crime spree. This forced Reign into hiding, at least until he could counter-attack and clear his name, alongside other heroes

  • Siege: Eager to get revenge on Norman Osborn and Mac Gargan/Venom, Ruin joined the assault on the Dark Avengers and Osborn's forces, to also clear his name and save the city of Asgard. Ruin was successful in taking down Mac and keeping assisting the New Avengers with The Hood and remaining H.A.M.M.E.R. forces, as the Avengers handled the Void.

  • Shadowland: Ruin was among the several heroes that tried to reason with Murdock, during his murderous reign as the new leader of the Hand. After finding out that Luke Cage and Iron Fist were visited by Fisk, and that Fisk was responsible for unleashing Ghost Rider, Ruin decided to pay the Kingpin a visit, insisting that he stay out of their business in trying to stop Murdock and the Hand, or he face the consequences. He was also among the heroes that fought against the various factions of the Hand, as his closest friends tried to end his possession from the Beast.

  • Spider-Island:

  • Civil War II:

  • Inhumans VS X-Men:

  • Venomverse:

Weaknesses:

  • Although Ruin's anger is his own, the symbiote amplifies it exponentially, sometimes causing him to go berserk, but thankfully not to the point where teammates or civilians are at risk or harmed. Destruction of property and damage to his opponents, however...

  • Ruin can be stubborn to a fault, especially if a situation involves his beliefs and/or ideals.

  • Dwells on failure, often going over the countless different ways a scenario could have played out better.

  • Acts emotionally more often than logically, leading to impulsive actions and reckless behavior.

  • Puts the lives of his mother and significant other before the lives of others, including himself.

  • Aiden and Ruin are as one. Although this isn't exactly a weakness, if anyone was able to find a way to separate the symbiote from Aiden, the process would gravely injure or even kill both of them.

  • Although Ruin is completely immune to sonic attacks, he is still affected by extreme heat, but to a much lesser degree than other symbiotes.

Notes:

  • Aiden has a strong force of will, completely free of evil and temptation. Although conflicted at first, Aiden was able to regain control and keep it. Remembering his fallen father’s words, and the advice that Spider-man had given, there is almost nothing that could overcome him mentally when he is determined.

  • When enraged, his form becomes more monstrous, increasing in size and muscle mass during the process. With some advice and insight from the Bruce Banner, he is eventually able to gain much greater control of his actions, while in this form.

  • Only Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Clemency, and Kingpin know his true identity. Learning the hard way what happens when his secret identity is known, thanks to Kingpin, he regrets initially revealing who he is and has only done so to those he truly trusts and he considers to be in no danger from knowing.

  • For this reason, Ruin would have sided with Captain America during the original Civil War, aside from the fact that forcing anyone to do something against their will, or for the “greater good”, just isn't right.

  • This is also why Ruin sided with Tony Stark during the second Civil War, as arresting someone, or worse, before a deed is done is a slippery slope, and could be very dangerous in the wrong hands.

  • Loves Horror movies and Dark Comedies, his favorite actor being Bruce Campbell

Notable Relations:

  • Alicia Darrow: Mother of Aiden and hardened detective. She survived being shot multiple times by hitmen hired by Wilson Fisk, but was never able to prove it. She returned back to work, determined to avenge her husband's death, and to continue keeping the streets of New York safe. Alicia helped teach Aiden how to defend himself as a child, and helped shape him into the man he is. She is still unaware that Aiden is also Ruin, but has helped Ruin with intel, when the situation calls for it.

  • Clemency: Gabriela Catalan has been in a relationship with Aiden since the two were young. She helps to keep him in check when his emotions get the best of him, considering that the symbiote amplifies them, and was somewhat difficult to control in his early years of being a hero. She was exposed to the Terrigen Mist, while on vacation with friends, and was revealed to be an Inhuman, capable of manipulating cells within herself and those she touches, increasing the ability to heal, or cause the cells to attack and damage the body.

  • Peter Parker: Although their first encounter with one another didn't go very well, the two came to an understanding not long after. Aiden considers Parker to be a kindred spirit, and highly respects him. He has turned to Parker for wisdom and insight, especially in Aiden's early years of being a hero.

  • Luke Cage and Danny Rand: Aiden ran into Luke Cage and Danny Rand while chasing a lead on Fisk's operations. The two were also looking into reports of missing people, which brought them to a warehouse ran by Tombstone. A fight breaks out between Aiden and the Heroes for Hire, as the two assumed that he was a new villain that was working for Tombstone. After restraining the two and explaining the situation, they all worked together to find the truth and save the day. It wasn't the last time that Aiden would team up with them, to help out those in need and clean up the streets.

  • Matt Murdock: Murdock was Aiden's mother, Alicia, contact. Aiden wanted to blame him, at first, for putting his mother in danger, leading to the attempt on her life, but knows that only Kingpin is truly at fault. The two have worked together on more than one occasion, in order to take down Kingpin, the right way.
