“Come, Lune. It’s high time you got to play with the other children.”

Nina’s words confused Lune more than he’d like to admit. Sure, he knew other children existed- there had been some in the village. But he never would have been allowed to PLAY with them, Leht forbid. He had far more important things to do, like training his magic (which he kept doing in the dark of night, when he thought nobody noticed). What was he supposed to do?

Apparently, his question showed on his face, because Nina smiled down at him, a look of… something in her eyes. Pity? “Just do whatever you’d like. Within reason, of course. I’m sure the other children would happily show you a game if you asked kindly enough. You’ll make some friends in no time, dear.”

Lune didn’t feel as sure as Nina did. He’d never had a friend before, only parents and mentors. He knew that Leht was friend to all, so maybe it was something like that?

As they neared the playroom, Lune heard the quiet clamor of people talking, laughing, yelling, and fiddling with some sort of objects he couldn’t quite pinpoint. It was ringing, bouncing, wooden clacking, and so much more. What in the world were they creating in there?

Then, Lune saw them.

A crowd, no, a HORDE of children of many ages, running around and playing- he assumed- with many colorful objects. They all seemed cheerful for the most part, though Lune couldn’t quite mirror the same emotion. It was, to put it bluntly, a LOT.

Nina gently patted Lune’s head. “I’m going to leave you be, I need to go care for the littlest ones. You can just watch for a moment if that would make you feel better. But do try to find a toy or a book, at least. You deserve to relax like any other kid.”

With those words, Nina hurried off, leaving Lune to stare into the busy room and wonder how any of this was meant to be relaxing.

I tried this using a new program that I'm not 100% sure about, but it's the best you can get for free on an android tablet as far as I can tell. If any of the colors are off, it's because I'm still trying to figure out how best to paste reference pictures to color pick from.
