Based on a Dragon Head Caterpillar(Flare + Wyrm)
Like most caterpillars, Flyrm has deceiving markings to help against predation.
It secretes an ooze that is almost like magma. This ooze is formed by a heat organ in it's body mixing with the rocks it consumes. This ooze coats thread spun by this Pokemon resulting in a silk that will always stay warm.
The ooze is very combustible, and many Fire Pokemon will eat a Flyrm so their mouths will be coated in the ooze, resulting in increased fire power for a short while. Flyrm has a very short window of time to fend off being eaten, the spikes on it's tail and body are used to try and attack the mouth of whatever tries to eat it.
To evolve it needs to soak in magma for several days, so it will eat out a crater then fill it with every drop of ooze it can make in order to incubate in. It has to do this in a secret place or Pokemon will come and drink up the ooze it worked so hard to generate.
It is said a Flyrm that survives being eaten will remember everyone who tried to eat it, and will seek revenge once it has evolved...
