one thing though, what are your brush and pressure settings? i also use the hardround but it doesn't seem to behave like yours

I use the round brush that's fourth over in CS5.. unlike the one that's second over, it's pressure sensitive (stroke size varies depending on pressure).
My pressure setting on my tablet (intuos2) is medium.
Even if I pick a 4 or 8 pixel brush, most of the strokes I actually put down are much thinner than that.. I would say I only press hard enough to use about half of the brush's width.
