You can chalk that up to inexperience with digital painting.  I think I used a brightness/contrast layer and sorta blew out the whites.  I did a recent touch up of this piece here: manbean.deviantart.com/art/Win⦠ that has a bit more balance to it.  And thanks for the comment too
