Stage 5. With the figure about 80-85% done, it was time to move on to the background. Those referring to the reference photo will note that I am not exactly reproducing the background. This is intentional.

The background, as it is in the photo, is too busy and distracting for my purpose. For this picture, the background serves two primary purposes: as a framing device for composition and to provide contrasting textures and shapes to the figure. I had certain ideas and concepts I wanted to convey with the figure. The background was changed as I felt necessary to achieve this.

Also note that the skritch at the bottom has been inked in.
