Description
This is a WIP shot of a request I'm working on for . Posting it now to try and get some feedback. The plan is to put two characters in here: one sitting on the branch and one climbing up the trunk. I also plan on adding close-ups of the characters' faces in the top-right and bottom left.
What I need help with: I'm not sure if I should extend the background any wider. I'm not sure what to do with the extreme background where I've got the half-assed building.
This is also the first tree I've painted digitally so any tips there are muchly appreciated.
Edit: For Improvement-club I've finished this piece but I'd still like some critique. I like the tree/bushes/fence but I'm at a loss as to create more depth behind them -- this is a city scene so there should be buildings across the street, but I'm not sure how to go about adding them.

That doesn't look to bad at all! But, well, I'm a realist, and you probably couldn't climb this tree ... so maybe one more branch, or something to grab would be helpful ... And as you finished it this is probably superfluent, but I would extend the format on the right side (about 15%)... you could, of course, also "turn the tree", so that it doesen't stand upright anymore (turn it against the clockwise direction (is this correct??)), so that integrating the character-closeups is easier ... but let us see the finished piece!

Wow, thanks for the great comment! I did end up posting the final piece ([link] ) but I'll need to edit it because I forgot to wrap the branch around the cat's leg, so I don't mind making more adjustments if it still needs them.

looks great only - she sits beside the branch a bit ... maybe you could lift her left leg a bit ... ... but I don't like working on old pictures for my part, so no worries
And if this is really your first tree its awesome man! Practise a bit and get a professional Tree-Painter

I've painted a few trees with traditional media before, but I hadn't done one digitally before.
I had actually copied the bit of branch that's supposed to go in front of her far leg, but silly me forgot to make it visible when I saved it for uploading, so like I said, I'll need to edit this to fix that.

This looks really great! I love it, and one the people are added it will tie it together nicely.
I don't think too much should be added into the background otherwise it will take away form the main focus of the picture. But maybe some other smaller/shorter building(s) can be added to give a more filled up/not empty place.
Can't wait to see this finished

Thanks! I'm getting a little paranoid because it's so narrow, but maybe the closeups will help that.

Hmm, well i think it will look fine narrow, but if you add a little bit, it would not hurt. I definitely think the closeups will help
