Description
"Please don't despair. No, there's no need for tears. The worst of it's over, so let go of your fears. And though you won't be able to leave, the future won't be as bad as you believe. I know that you're feeling blue, and you don't know what to do. Trust my words to be true, and know that I will help you. Every-thing is gonna be o-kay, tomorrow's gonna be a wonderful new day."Nathan King began life in an orphanage before escaping and turning to life as a street urchin. He quickly found success as a thief and con artist, and learned to survive in an uncaring world. As an adult, he crossed paths with Melanie Spade and joined her gang, becoming her right hand man. Logical and no-nonsense, King proved himself a brilliant tactician, able to mastermind numerous high profile heists. Once a penniless waif, King had gone from rags to riches, and vowed he would never be impoverished again.
As time went on, others joined the gang, and the boss began setting her sights on more extreme goals than organized crime. This began to upset the rest of the group, with Skunk as the first to defect. Jasper soon followed, and eventually King, who had only ever been in it for the money, decided that he wanted no further part in Melanie's ambitions.
A wanted criminal without the protection of the gang, King was forced into hiding. Though he was proficient at surviving on the streets, he proved far less successful at surviving in the wilderness. Dragon found King near the brink of death, and the desperate fugitive surrendered without protest. His captor nursed him back to health, and the two of them began their journey to the Divine Sanctuary that would become King's new home. While King had not yet become divine in those days, mortal criminals found by the gods are often offered the privilege of serving their time in the sanctuary in lieu of prison.
Once a powerful figure in organized crime, King had met the fate he vowed to avoid, and was once again ragged and penniless. After a lifetime of hardship and a determined effort to escape it, he was back at square one, and now expected to spend the remainder of his life stuck in captivity. Nothing remained of his pride and composure; it had been replaced by profound anguish, and all he could do was cry.
Though Dragon is often stern, the warden of the sanctuary has a warm and caring heart, and a merciful nature. Through the power of music, he attempts to console his prisoner. The sanctuary is a far gentler place than the cruel prisons that King had endured, and though he doesn't know it yet, he will be able to live the sort of comfortable life there that he has always dreamed of. And thanks to the support of Dragon, King will never need worry about being impoverished ever again.
After some time as an inmate, King opened up to Dragon about his fear of mortality, and his desire to become divine. Dragon returned and presented King with a star-shaped candy that, once eaten, would provide him divinity. King tearfully accepted the gift of divine candy, and with that final weight lifted off his shoulders, he could at last look forward to tomorrow.
