Lumstigethers
"Shining Silver Starlight: A Deal with the Devil" is a short story in the Shining Silver Starlight universe that tells the origin of Skunk. Once a denizen of our own world, she was granted a wish and transported into a new world, a world of magic, and was granted a new body, a divine soul, new powers, and a new life. However, it came at a price. The manipulative Lumstigethers granted Skunk's wish in full, but in so doing was able to create a link that would one day allow him to invade reality, with the promise of bringing misery and ruin when that fateful day finally comes.

I'm just starting it and I have to ask, have you ever seen Escaflowne? Poor Kid is giving me Hitomi vibes right now!

I've only seen the movie version - which is, from what I understand, the inferior version of it - but the character, Hitomi, is tragic. She wanted to die, to disappear from the world but, instead, she was transported to a different world entirely... quite beautiful
Great minds think alike!

Great minds think alike I felt awful for Hitomi but her notions also resonated with me - and though the movie may not be as great as the anime, it still holds a special place in my heart for the art quality, story-at-large anyway and the MUSIC!
Hitomi is also wonderfully beautiful, though she doesn't have the tasty bangs

Yeah. Skunk is, understandably, unaffected by her own ability, and is initially confused as to why something like that would be a curse, even though her memory and intuition tell her that it is. Its effect on other people varies, as some people are more sensitive than others or outright immune, but generally they find it to be more than a little unpleasant, or at the very least annoying, upsetting, and inconvenient. Even if someone is unfazed by it, there is still the problem of being ostracized by people who are.

Thanks. It's really hard to not give up. I'm in a great deal of pain. But I want to leave something worthwhile behind before I go, if I can. That way, at least some good will have come from this life. So I'm going to keep trying. Your encouragement means a lot.

Oho, an origin story in a form of a video (using RPG Maker MV, of course), eh?

Yep! Skunk as a child is supposed to be the real-world me, but unlike in real life, her path ends up taking a very different turn. She has forgotten her previous life, but the pain from that time still managed to linger subconsciously, and as a result she is bitter and starts out as a villain. Like me, she effectively didn't have a childhood, though in her case it's considerably more literal. While deep down she wants to be good, she has only ever been ostracized, alone, and unloved, and it has caused her to lose much of her capacity to empathize with others. Though she commits bad deeds and makes people fear and hate her, she isn't really evil, and doesn't want to kill mortals or inflict undue pain and suffering. The short also sets up Lumstigethers as a villain, and shows the events that would allow him to one day invade reality.
Did you have any trouble playing it? Did you enjoy it at all? I know it's really short and simple, but I think it conveys everything that I had wanted to when I started working on it, and I learned a lot of new things while doing so. I think the funnest and most satisfying effect to implement was the transition between the second and third scene. It worked out as perfectly as I could have hoped, way better than I thought I would be able to do.
I'm primarily interested in story-telling with some light gameplay elements, and Lydia Story will have a number of cinematic scenes like this that delve into the past of Lydia and a few other characters, and as a whole will be a linear dialogue-based game peppered with simple combat and a few secrets and diversions. The series has a number of arcs where major villains cause trouble, but for the most part conflict is internal and social, and a lot of the time things are rather peaceful, wholesome, and slice of life. For a lot of people, that is going to be very boring and painfully saccharine, but I'm making this series for myself and the five other people in the world who would enjoy it.

I see. Now I really want to see the rest of the episode! XD
Unfortunately, I still have problems trying to run it as it keeps on lagging very badly. Still trying to figure out how to fix this problem and I badly want to try out your game. I think it has something to do with my laptop's Graphic card, but I'm still not sure. I'm doing whatever I can to get it to work properly.

Oh, you're still having troubles? I've taken the liberty of putting it up on YouTube in video form. The audio and video quality is reduced, and the dialogue progresses on it's own instead of through button presses, but it's about ten minutes long and you shouldn't have any trouble viewing it now. You can find the link to it in the description. I hope you enjoy.
