Description
After Caroline had watched Almanzo in the pasture, she had asked Hathien, the owner of Silver Stone Stables, if she could ride Almanzo for a short time. She wanted to see how he behaved while being ridden. Almanzo had been quickly tacked up and they lead him to the indoor arena. It would have been nice to ride Almanzo out of doors, but the ground was covered in a fresh layer of snow, so they decided she may as well ride the stallion indoors instead. Caroline walked with Zachary, Diggory, Hathien, and Almanzo through the snowy yard, approaching the indoor arena. Everyone’s cheeks were red from the cold, but they were excited and hopeful. They walked through the door of the arena. The arena was clean and very bright. Hathien passed Almanzo’s reins to Caroline. Caroline scratched behind his ears for a moment before climbing lightly onto his broad back. When she gently nudged the big horse’s sides with her heels, he started walking immediately. Soon Caroline and Almanzo were trotting briskly around the arena, performing a few figure eights, and other patterns. Almanzo had an elegant, showy trot. He curved his muscly neck, pricking his ears forward as he raised his feathery hooves off the ground. His long, thick mane and tail flowed out behind him in dark ripples.
Caroline urged the stallion into a canter. She rode him around the arena, performing various patterns that included lead changes. She had him change direction, back up, trot and canter slowly and quickly, and several other exercises. Then she slowed him down into a walk and they went around the arena a few times to cool him down before she had him halt in front of Zachary, Diggory, and Hathien.
“How is he?” Zachary asked.
“He’s amazing!” Caroline breathed. “He’s so responsive! With just the slightest of movement, he does what you want. He’s seems really eager to please his rider.” Caroline patted the stallion’s powerful neck.
Caroline didn’t want to get off, but she knew she must, so she dismounted and handed his reins back to Hathien. “Thanks so much for letting me ride him, he’s like a dream.” Caroline smiled.
On the way home, all Caroline was thinking. She knew some other people must be interested in him, so she tried not to get her hopes up to high about owning Almanzo. But Caroline knew that she must have this stallion. She hoped that she would be able to ride him again. She just needed too. He was such an amazing horse. He was so beautiful. The whole way home, all Caroline could think of was Almanzo.

This is another picture of *Hathien603 's Almanzo. I would be so happy if I could get Almanzo from Hathien. My stable is interested in buying him, and I hope so much we get him.
I had lots of fun drawing this picture! Almanzo's pose and colour was a fun challenge for me. Caroline's face was also a challenge.

I haven't been on dA in about a year and I decided to look at some of my old friends' galleries. You've improved so much, and Almanzo is beautiful (:

He looks so lovely, Sky! Once again I loved the story, and the angle you chose for this piece is really dynamic and nicely drawn! Great job with Manly's colors once again. Thanks for another entry, I've got you added!

Thanks, Hathien! I'm so glad you like the story. The angle was a challenge, but I'm glad the hard work paid off a little.
You're welcome! I'd be honoured to own Manly, but I also just love drawing him, so I'll take the chance while I can.

CRITQUE: requested,
for this I am shocked you asked since i can't find much wrong at all infact i think it is quite amazing!
the minor details i would hint at are the eye positioning of the horse (need more to the left) and the girls legs could be thicker/longer otherwise this piece is amazing!!! keep up the good work!

Aww, thanks! For some reason I just could NOT get the eyes in the right spot. O-oh, that's what is wrong with Caroline.
Now that you point it out, her legs do look to small! Thanks.

Wow, this picture is even better than I imagined it would be! Those golden highlights on Almanzo's coat are so beautiful and syrupy...this makes me love his colouring even more than before. And you did a great job with Caroline, too - she's really pretty! I can even recognize her face from your first picture of her!
The story was great too, especially the details about all the skills Almanzo can do. I just noticed that you wrote "brusquely" which means "roughly" where I think you meant to put "briskly."
Now I have to admire his shiny coat again...I love it so much! The muscle detail is so three-dimensional.

Yay, thannks! I'm glad I could make his colouring look okay. And you can recognise her? That's even better than I had hoped! I always have such a hard time drawing people, so usually even if they look okay, they don't look like how they are supposed too.
Oh, ha ha, whoops! For some reason my computer kept saying that I spelled "briskly" wrong, and it told me to write "brusquely" instead, so I did. I guess you can't always trust computers!

Haha, I guess you can't trust them...but that's not so good, because I'm such a bad speller that I always let my computer spell for me.

This looks amazing! The sand does look very good! The story seized me right away, and you did such a good job on the horse and rider! Caroline's face looks fantastic, and I love Almanzo's legs especially!
