Delta, who was put into his position in his father's place, is unsure if he's doing the right thing. He misses his father who disappeared in action a few years ago, and often feels that most days feel like one long one, with sleep just being a pause in the middle. Each day to him feels like the same, wake up, eat, plan, sleep, repeat. He feels he isn't providing enough, and wishes for the opportunity to see how he can contribute more.

Prologue

  Darkness. Everywhere it was darkness. A dark fog covered the once beautiful land, buildings damaged as bomb after bomb hit. The ponies who once lived in them scattered for shelter, seeking protection from the attacks, banging on the doors of the bomb shelters before their inevitable end. A dark blanket of radiation covered the land, the occasional gunfire or shout heard in the distance. Coughing instilled throughout the lungs of many ponies, the poisonous gas bringing tears to their eyes. Those who hadn’t made it to the shelters or hadn’t gotten proper protection would suffer the loss of their lives alongside their loved ones.
      This was the day Equestria was changed forever.
