What's up, people of the internet? This is Crimson speaking, and I'm back with a few new drawings. I spent the last few weeks playing Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (via emulator, of course, since I own neither a GameCube nor an actual copy of the game) and recently beat it just a few days ago. I then spent a few days drawing some of my favorite units from the game, starting with these two - Boyd and Oscar. For the uninformed, they're the first units you get to use in the game, alongside the game's protagonist, Ike (yes, the same guy who became really popular thanks to Smash Bros.), and the quintessential earlygame pre-promoted unit and another of my favorite characters in the game, Titania. Boyd starts out in the Fighter class while Oscar is a Lance Knight (traditionally referred to as a Cavalier in other games). Both served me incredibly well throughout my playthrough, ending up on within my Top Five (2nd and 4th place, respectively) in my Unit Records.
Admittedly, Boyd got a bit of a slow start since Fighters have high Strength and HP, but generally subpar Defense and Speed, and he did get a little RNG screwed in some stats, so I ended up having to give him the most amount stat booster items (A Dracoshield, a Secret Book, and an Energy Drop) to keep him from falling off completely. Oscar didn't have this problem, as Cavaliers tend to be really good in general due to well-rounded stats and their mount giving them greater movement; well, that and mounted units absolutely dominate in Path of Radiance thanks to Canto - basically, you can spend the unit's remaining movement even after doing a thing - even attacking (which normally isn't the case in other games)!
Those who have played the game before will be aware that these two are brothers, and that they have a younger brother named Rolf, who is also playable but joins much later. I'll talk more about him in the future, but for now, I'll leave it at the fact that I did indeed use him in my playthrough, and he actually turned out really good, even if he is considered a bad unit. I even brought him to the Endgame, lol.
As for the art itself, I used several references when drawing these two, including their official art in Path of Radiance, Oscar's official art in Heroes (cuz I did not feel like drawing a whole ass horse), and some art that was used in that Fire Emblem Cipher trading card game. And excuse me if there are some anatomy errors, I haven't seriously tried to draw humanoid characters in a long while.
Anyway, I'll be back shortly with two other characters that I drew after this one is up, but until then, this is Crimson, signing off!
