Description
The air was thick with tension as the young Tokotas, almost vibrating from excitement, waited for the hunt to start. All of them had enough experience by now and were capable of trusting their own instincts when it came to tracking down, chasing and killing foxes. The little creatures never had much of a chance considering their size, but they were shy, fast and extremely smart.
"Well then, buddy.", Liam said after mounting one of the Tokotas named Kahn. Usually his friend Luca was caring for the young male, but this time they decided it would be better, if Liam himself attended the hunt.
Kahn didn't seem to be bothered by the change of his rider. His main interest was with the other Tokotas, Skrill, Riot and Iakobos. Skrill and Kahn completed two of the three rites of fertility together and Kahn was obviously delighted to meet him again.
"Okay guys, you seem to be in good shape. Let's see, if we can find some foxes before it gets too dark.", Liam called and once the Tokotas started running, they systematically scanned the area for possible prey animals.
Riot and Iakobos circled rocks and trees, following faint scents while Skrill stopped on one of the hills. His ears flicked back and forth as he listened to the various sounds that were carried by the wind. Kahn wasn't free to do as he pleased and he didn't miss to express his unwillingness by trying to ignore Liam's orders a few times.
"Sorry, buddy.", Liam sighted and patted the Tokotas fluffy shoulder, "Next time you won't have to carry me."
A growl caught the young man’s attention and his as well as Kahn’s head snapped up to see Riot dashing out of a group of trees. In front of him was a fox, panicked and squealing as it tried to escape. The snow was still rather deep and the little animal had to jump in big bows in order to keep a safe distance between itself and the Tokota.
Riot chased the fox without much effort and drove it down a hill where Iakobos was already waiting. Being trapped on both sides the fox only had one way to go, but even that one was cut off after a short while by Skrill.
The fox was struggling and tried to escape the deadly mouths by taking one more jump before it was caught mid-air.
“Damn, that’s quite an overkill…”, Liam murmured and focused on Kahn instead of the scene in front of them. His Tokota was impatient and whined as he had to watch the others taking down the prey.
“Don’t worry, Kahn. This was just the first one. The night just started and you’ll get to have some fun, too.”
