„Mockingbird has just arrived from Hungary yesterday, she may be a bit more shy than usual.”, Damon explained, so Ian wouldn’t think the mare wasn’t the badass she was described to be. „Fortunately, in this case, she is not really an as clingy example of her breed, schooled many beginners, but her potential is not nearly taken use of, somehow. We believe she needs a partner who constantly challenges her.“ Straight to business.

Ian nodded after Damon shared some more information about the mare. Straight to business, he liked that direct approach. „No doubt these days are stressful for her. I‘ll make sure she gets some rest and time to settle. We are in no rush, so the lady sets the pace.“

„We thought as long as she stays at familiar terrain, in Austria, she will be just fine! She‘s been a great help to hunt Obertaurers with the crew.”, Damon added. Oh that sounded great that they would give her the time she needs. Some people were so impatient tsk.

„Well, you and the crew are always welcome to visit and see how she‘s doing.“, Ian said with a smile, looking around as they walked to the stables. The location alone was worth a visit and the fact that he would return home, accompanied by a gorgeous mare, had lifted his spirits for the past few days.

Damon nodded, aw, what a generous, nice dude! „Well apparently our stables are really not so far apart. Maybe one day the hunters actually get lost around your area.” He saw it as a possibility, seeing how sometimes the Obers got lost on skiing areas too.

„Hah if they get lost and I happen to find them, I‘ll let you know.“, Ian replied with a chuckle, although he meant every word of it. Their stable was tiny in comparison to Imperials, but housing a few more horses and men was no problem.

The blond had brought Ian to Mockingbird's stall, who made a slow turn to show her backside to the visitors, just in case they thought she would welcome them with great enthusiasm. No no. The lady was not amused by the sudden trip to Imperials right when she thought the winter hunt was over. However, it was obvious by the one ear that was pointing towards the men, that she was in fact curious about them, just too proud to show it. Therefor Damon slipped Ian a bag of treats.

When they arrived at the mare in question Ian couldn't help but smile. "She is absolutely gorgeous.", he said, a fond look on his face. He's always had a soft spot for mares with attitude; the more, the better. Earning their trust and respect could be quite a challenge and take time, but it paid off all the more.

"Gotta convince her that I'm actually not that bad.", he joked when Damon handed him the treats to bribe her.

He held the treats in his hand, but didn't lean towards Mockingbird, letting her decide whether she wanted them or not. Being pushy to a lady was a no-no, especially since the mare had yet to be convinced that the situation - or rather he - was okay. "Hola princesa.", he greeted her with a smile once she decided to honor them with a small part of her interest.

Ian’s patience showed it‘s effect - a bit belated. Mockingbird had turned her head away again, staring into a different direction as if she was not so curious at all, but she did smell the treats… and started chewing by the pure imagination of them. So after a while she did turn around and carefully checked out the stranger.

Ian's smile widened when Mockingbird - eventually - decided to turn around, granting them a better view at her. That mare was truly beautiful, he could literally feel his heart melt.

Instead of trying to bribe the mare to interact with him, Ian decided to lowkey ignore her, treat still in hand, to let her decide whether she wanted it or not. Maybe she would feel less observed, when he focused on the man next to him instead of her. „What were the last things that have been done with her? Is there anything she‘s absolutely not fond of?“

Damon watched as the roan mare was confused why the dude stopped showing interest. Sooner than later she rejoined them and stole the treat, demanding the attention now that she was ignored. „She had been in Obertauern, in service when the hunters needed her. The man who used to work with her is not one of the main hunters, however, and more of an assistant, so she was mostly hanging out on the pasture. She is pretty surefooted from the many winters up there. I dont think that she’s particularily fond of being amongst overly sensitive and nervous horses, because she gets nervous too when otherwise she is pretty much bomb proof.”, the blond explained. He didnt know the mare‘s little quirks but likely nobody did, she didnt get attached to anyone really, not enough to open up.

Ian didn't react to the mare's approach and simply opened up his hand a bit more to let her snatch the treat from his palm. Getting relocated twice in such a short time would be stressful enough for her and he wanted to make sure that she felt somewhat comfortable in his presence. And once she was in her new home, she had all the time she needed to settle.

"Surefooted is a very good start.", he said with a nod and chuckled. Working with nervous horses wasn't new to him, especially when training young ones who weren't used to stunt manoeuvres or the sound of gunshots or other effects used for movies. "Our team is quite small at the moment, so she won't have to deal with a lot of people. Hopefully helps her to build some trust."
