I know this is fairly old, but I have to say this is an amazing example of how much you've improved over the course of a year! Your colors are far more smooth, and softer.
Both pieces however, are absolutely beautiful.

There is a lot of style change, but for sure, the newer portrait is much more accurate to what I was going for. Plus the nose, lips, eyes and neck are objectively better than before.

He looks somehow older in the newer pic :3 the old one has such large innocent eyes

There is definite improvement, but if I were to critique it I would say that they don't look like the same character. I believe it is the eye shapes. The original one had very unique eye shape that gave him a youthful, almost mistrusting expression. The new one the eyes are smaller and make him look older and give him an entirely new expression.
I think that and the stronger jaw line changed the face juuust enough to make him look older, but they eyes can drastically alter appearances. Other than that, I don't have much else to say.

Your observations are correct and do make me happy since in the first portrait, his face was not at all the way I wanted and came out looking uncanny and the expression was confusing. The new piece comes closer to my original vision, and his face. Thank you for your critique!
