Poor Helga my theory is the reason she is neglected is because she was an unplanned pregnancy when Bob and Mariam only wanted Olga and no more children and Olga was Bob and Mariam's distraction from their awful marriage. Poor Helga suffered so much and it's no wonder she's angry.

It makes sence now why Helga is such a bully. Her family showed her little/no affection and grew up in Olga's shadow. Even Bob calls her Olga all the time and Mirium is too drunk to notice she even has a second daughter most days. Bullying is probably her crying out for help, for someone to notice how much pain she's in.
That theripist she saw in 'Helga on the Couch' should have called social services or the police because she was legaly neglected. She has so much talent but hides it because if she does get the attention she craves, she's terrified she'll screw up and loose everything.

Seriously, you capture the style and maturity of the show so well here. I can see Helga's loneliness and despair perfectly--it's no wonder she fell in love with Arnold; he's the only one who gives her the time of day, even if she acts like she doesn't care on the outside.
