Description Special thanks to for suggesting that i place the lion's head on the belt instead of the "S" symbol and removing the Lion's head from the Cape Buckle.. and special thanks to for suggesting that the Belt be bigger covering more of the Torso, this design looks way better now.. and still retains elements of what I wanted..

Note: I decided to use the Old school template for Star Superion for him.. made it easy.. plus I changed some of his design aspects.. anyways.. for the original images on Samson..check here:

Samson is not part of the Guardian Legion, he is part of the Agenda.. a government sponsored Super hero team.. lead by the father like Major Battalion..

The Mighty Samson!

Samson, a Biblical Super Hero once fought villains and demons in the historical past, and even broke the pillars of the Great Temple of Gaza in Philistine!!! He was betrayed and Blinded by the Philistines and his Love Delilah. he tricked them into believing his power came from his hair, in reality it was the powerful and ancient, "Ring of Might!!"..Before being captured and tortured by the philistines, Samson sent his trusted servant to hide the Ring and seal it from evil forever..some residual energy remained in Samson's body and as the right moment came, Samson's friend and servant placed Samson amongst the pillars of the great temple of Gaza and with that brought the entire structure down..

It was here Where Samson was said to have died.. but had his power died with him??
No one knew of the great Ring of Might that gave Samson his powers.. until..

In 2008, Jason Windham and his team of Archaeologists unearthed in Egypt, what looked to be a sacred Burial Temple with homages and shrines to that of the Hero known as Samson.. Jason Windham had found a great find, but was threatened and attacked by a group of unknown militant Muslims calling themselves the Hassan Garava.

They Killed many of Windham's Men and scientists.. holding a few hostage for ransom.. but Jason Windham was smart, and sent a package before his capture to his estranged Ex wife and Son back in the US.

Scott Windham was a teenager attending his sophomore year in High school. when word of his father's capture came out on Television showing his father and other Hostages were being held... Scott Was furious and saddened.. one night in his room, Scott sat gazing at the sky, having opened his father's package to wonderful treasures found in that burial tomb.. of which was the fabled "Ring of Might!"

The words on the inside of the ring were in Sumerian, and not readable, and yet, as Scott Stared more at the wording, it became blurry and hard to discern.. until it suddenly became readable!! In English!!..

" With strength unfurled
to destroy evils of the World.
Klaatu Verada Nikto!!" (By Thy Power!!)

With that it became clear to Scott, he placed the Ring of Might on his finger and repeated the mantra read on the Ring..a sudden flash of light sparked from the Ring with energy rings floating over Scott's Body. His hair, size, face, clothes all changed into that of The Mighty Samson!!!

Using his awesome powers of strength and speed, Samson made his way to Egypt, where he fought and rescued his father and his team.. yet tragedy came too soon..

A Dirty bomb exploded just as Jason Windham rushed in to free a few more people held captive by the evil Hassan Garava, and died in the ensuing explosion..

Distraught, Scott Windham vowed to use his powers to stop injustice and evil throughout the world as The Mighty Samson!!! Samson is a member of the Super Secret Government Funded Super Hero team called the Agenda.. and he still continues his career as a Teenager in school..

When Ever Samson wants to return to his human form, he must repeat the words..

" With the World evils unfurled
Nikto Verada Klaatu!!" (Undo Thy Power!!),

With that the Great Samson becomes a teenager, Scott Windham once more..

I like the design, I like the origin. It's all good to me. I glanced over a few of the comments left on this and yeah Samson does strike a resemblance to Captain Marvel (or is it Shazam these days?) and the origin seems to be a mixture of Captain Marvel and Green Lantern but it's take on mythology makes it your own. It's true, Whiz Comics were sued by DC for Captain Marvel's resemblance to Superman costume and powers-wise but nobody has ever sued Nutty comics for the creation of Bananaman despite his resemblance to Batman and Captain Marvel.
I would agree with the 'S' thing as a buckle for the cape, I'd maybe change that to a lion's head similar to that of the belt. And I'd make the belt bigger, like the Sentry's, covering most of the mid-torso. It would give the overall look a sense of consistency and the enlarged belt would bring a more medieval feel to it all.
But for the love of all that is good KEEP those bracelet thingies. I don't know why, I just think they look excellent.

I think that the resemblance to Captain Marvel is a bit over rated.. after hearing comments from others who are defending his looks as being separate and different, I have come to the conclusion, some people would see captain marvel while others will see something totally different.. take for example that the hair style of Samson looks more like the current Kid Marvel, and the white and gold outfit is reminiscent of the Shazam version fo Captain Marvel.. however the Shazam Marvel has a full blown cape and no longer sports his side cape.. so it's like there is a mixture almost if you were to compare him to a cross between the younger captain marvel, and the shazam version..

however, i do like some of the suggestions you have posed, and will take them under advisement..I will say though that the "S" on the cape Buckle is more meant for recognition, like a superman "S" or batman's "Bat" symbol on his chest.. so if people look at this character, they instantly understand the "S" is for Samson, and not just a Lion's head guy in a white outfit.. the Lion's head on the belt is a reflection of the Ring of Might, and is meant to show how the power within that ring has completely covered the body of Scott Windham.. if you read the back story behind the Ring of Might[link] what you see is that the Ring was made from the Golden Fleece, by an alchemist obsessed with stealing Hercules power for his own, so the outfit of Samson is more a reflection of Greek influence with his side cape, then anything else..so taking it from a Greek Gods stand point, and then applying a bit of Middle eastern design I.E. the shirt, I think he has the look that works for the concept..

kameleon84 In reply to skywarp-2 [2009-01-08 13:16:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I definitely agree with you there. The bigger belt to me was what I was referring to the Greek influence thing. The 'S' is Samson and lets people know that but if he is actually Samson there wouldn't be much need to let people know that I feel. Superheroes add logo's to costumes for identification and like you said the lion is a reflection of the ring of might so in turn acts as his logo. If you're set on having an 'S' why not make it the Greek letter for 'S?

skywarp-2 In reply to kameleon84 [2009-01-08 13:59:46 +0000 UTC]

hmmmmm.. well that would be cool.. but I think it defeats the purpose for the recognition for kids.. they won't know it's a Greek "S" However, I am doing some work on changing the belt, because after your suggestion I went and experimented a bit, and I do like it.. I'll take a peek at the "Greek S" and see what it looks like..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kameleon84 In reply to skywarp-2 [2009-01-08 14:57:42 +0000 UTC]

Ok slight problem with the Greek 'S', 'S' wasn't invented yet
However, Samson translates to Σαμψών.
I wasn't aware of the character being for kids as well. My mind never seems to put those two things together for some reason Green Lantern doesn't have a 'G' on him nor Flash an 'F' and if the lion is a literalthing that is on the ring of might then it acts as a logo in itself. It's your character though but the character has so much rich, traditional Greek armor and then there's a squiggle for the cape holder. Maybe even just a redesigned 'S', something along the lines of Superman Kingdom Come or something.

I realized a while ago that diversity for the AWG is not at the top of the list when creating comics. It used to make me angry, but I now understand that if it is not present in your day to day life, it will never come to mind. My Elohim Rapha are based on people I know that were close to me, so there are African Americans(Gilead, Grudge and K'alluvia), Italian Americans, (Neijia and Combat) and one AWG who's family originally came from Czechoslovakia(Inferno) and one Egyptian American(Synapse). This is important to me because African Americans are not the core consumers of comic books. If no more African Americans were introduced into comics it wouldn't change sales numbers. I know comics that are diverse don't sell well, and it will be difficult for me. I just hope you don't make a stereotype who is an afterthought character like Cage. I hate Cage because of the writers. They are AWGs writing an African American and it is just awful.

skywarp-2 In reply to hulkdaddyg [2009-01-08 04:26:13 +0000 UTC]

I agree.. and it's not that I don't see diversion in my everyday life, or that I'm not interested.. it's just that once I go down a cultural path, I tend to crank out nothing but that until I get it right and final.. and that's all I focus on.. so before I do that, i want to get the stuff I know I've had in mind for years out and finalized..90% of this work has been in my head for years..

however.. i don't like how the people of our country have been twisted to be so PC so much so that we have to place a country of origin in front of their status.. like African American, or Italian American.. I'm of Italian and Scottish Decent..but I don't go around calling myself a European American or Italian American Or Scottish American.. it just sounds silly to me.. I'm white.. I got black friends, and friends who are tan and brown.. but we are all Americans and we are all interested in the same fundamental thing..

Success, Freedom, Security and A long and stress free life..

I do see your point on the stereotypical Black super hero.. which I think with the Lord Marshall I strayed away from that.. plus Gabriel's Oath is cool as well.. I need more asian and other racial characters, but I need to temper that until everything is completed for the cards I have right now.. Cage is laughable.. but I like Black Lightning.. he's cool.. and so is Cyborg..(Smallville's version is awesome) so i think on that DC has a better handle on Black Characters.. more so then Marvel.. which is why they try to get soooo overly "see look at us being socially conscious..we have minorities, and Gays,etc.." which in truth shows them just unable to create a new character that is cool.. and oh, happens to be black..

Daredevil movie.. (Michael Duncan) king pin.. uh... no.. that was ridiculous.. and Ben Afleck as daredevil?? sheesh...

Ultimate Marvel comic book, shaft as the shield director???

I mean at least Todd McFarlane and Image comics had a winner with Spawn.. that was awesome!! and the movie rocked..

some crazy brittish tabloid said something about Eddie Murphy being the riddler in Batman 3..which is totally bogus and not reality.. but I mean come on.. if we start changing a race for the sake of race is that not racism?? what a black man isn't capable of being a cool super hero on his own without having a white one given up for him just for the sake of diversity..?? dude..

I love your characters.. because you take the serious look at the subject and roll with it.. I may not be there yet, but I will, and my characters will not be token Black Guys or asian guys with stereotypes in tow.. I'm gonna do it right..

but as you can tell I have no love for marvel.. I did back in the 1980's -1990's (early 90's) before they went nutso with bazillion variant covers and Bone claws..

Gabe's Oath is Middle Eastern, not African American.
"i don't like how the people of our country have been twisted to be so PC so much so that we have to place a country of origin in front of their status.. like African American, or Italian American.. I'm of Italian and Scottish Decent..but I don't go around calling myself a European American or Italian American Or Scottish American.. it just sounds silly to me.. I'm white.. I got black friends, and friends who are tan and brown.. but we are all Americans and we are all interested in the same fundamental thing.."
I agree with that and for the record nothing like those titles will appear in my writing, because nothing like that came up in our lives. It's just people dealing with other people. I just didn't want to create an entity like the "Friends" sitcom that had no Black people in it...even in the background. Spawn was not a winner though. He created a black superhero that went to hell and came back with NO SKIN. There's a lot more I could say about that...but I wont. I will say that for the most part I don't like changing races of established characters, but Nick Fury to me was ok. Unnecessary but ok, since his race was not an integral part of who the character is. Also it IS an alternate universe. I was more upset they made Colossus gay over there. They could have just made the director of Shield Gabriel Bridge who IS Black, so that is odd for them to make changes that have no purpose.
My problem with DC is the fluctuating power levels of the characters. One day Supes can survive a nuke and the next he gets taken down by a bazooka. I like Cyborg but he is a redundant character. Black Lightning gets no respect. He suffers the same bad writing as Cage. Steel was good for a while, but now he's irrelevant.
I think you've got really cool characters. And I hope you understand that you not having much diversity was an observation, not a judgment or criticism. I initially created my characters from my pool of friends, that is why they are diverse. If you don't create that way then there it is. No harm no foul. But you do make my point, it's just not at the top of your priority list.

skywarp-2 In reply to hulkdaddyg [2009-01-08 13:21:44 +0000 UTC]

Gabriel bridge was cool.. As far as Spawn, the Whole Hell thing, no skin etc.. I was speaking in terms more of the actor, he was cool,a nd I wish he would do more Super Hero movies, like a reboot of Steel, without the Junk Yard spin...that Shaq Movie felt more like Blankman then Steel (why an obsession with the ghetto is beyond me, many of my black friends are confused as to why there is a tendency to go there, for recognition purposes maybe?? Most of my friends can just go visit a relative or go downtown to see that.. but a super hero an positive role model and a dream is different, I mean why not show a positive successful Blackman instead of taking it to the streets? Hollywood has more stereotypes then we even know), to me Steel should be like a DC version of Tony Stark.. with a huge corporation and his daughter in Metal suit as a surprise bonus.. as it is in the Current DC comics..with a cameo from Superman.. that would be cool..

True it's not a priority, but not because other nationalities aren't on my mindset.. it's more of characters and ideas related to my personal favorites that have been sitting in notes and art pads for years, whose day it has to finally be seen in color and by an audience..I have many characters that are of different racial and ethnic back grounds.. and many who are prominent in the World of Star Superion..they will be showing up sooner or later..

plus I have a huge Asian villain and super hero collection coming as well..

As far as Gabe's Oath, we made changes, and he is black and American.. he is a reflection of our black brothers with strong faith in christ and god..which I believe many people forget.. when they see things like a Black movement church, which segregates itself from society seeking to empower it's congregation but elevates itself above others and doesn't solve the divide, rather makes it worse.. I got no love for that sort of thing, I mean I go to Church which is very diverse, and traditional..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hulkdaddyg In reply to skywarp-2 [2009-01-08 16:54:11 +0000 UTC]

Michael Jai White is a favorite actor of mine and He based Vector on him. Hollywood wont write that movie you speak of and Black movie producers definitely don't think about Black superheroes. Blade was good, but it does fly in the face of Black culture. Black people generally go to church and fear God. Even those idiot rappers who talk about bitches and hos win their award and first give thanks to God(whom I always say they are thanking the wrong guy). So Blade and Spawn are very much anti-culture.
As far as your priorities, I have not passed judgment, it's all good.
Making the Oath a Black man is cool. Love that difficult character design! I agree with not liking separatist groups that seek to say they or their race is superior, but I don't like the violent ones WAY more.

Yeah, the others took the words right out of my mouth. I kind of liked it when the lions were on the gauntlets, but I can understand how that would be stressful to draw and re-draw. That side cape had to go. Since Samson is inspired by a whole different religion than Captain Marvel, one can't really argue about similar powers. After all, Flash (DC) and Quicksilver (Marvel) are pretty much the same guy. The drawing looks great, at any rate.

I find myself wondering though, is your whole universe pretty much inspired/paying homage to pre-existing mainstream characters?
